About Us | Consumer Products Recruiters

Who We Are

Advocate Group’s DE&I recruitment services ensure fair, inclusive hiring practices across FMCG, CPG and consumer-products sectors.

DE&I Recruitment That Builds Fairer FMCG Shortlists

DE&I recruitment builds fairer shortlists by stripping bias out of every hiring touchpoint, from job adverts to interview scorecards, and by sourcing from wider talent pools. Advocate Group embeds inclusive practice across FMCG, food, drink, beauty and CPG hiring, so representation improves and retention holds. The same discipline sits behind why unbiased recruitment matters at every stage of a search.

What Is DE&I Recruitment?

DE&I Recruitment Services Explained

Our DE&I recruitment services UK combine recruitment consulting expertise with inclusion best practices to ensure fair representation across FMCG, food, beauty, fashion, CPG, drinks, health & wellbeing, homeware, and toys & games roles. We design every touchpoint, from job adverts to interview guides, to eliminate unconscious bias and embed equality recruitment throughout. Advocate Group’s diversity & inclusion consultants partner with clients to align hiring with organisational values and regulatory standards.

Equality Recruitment Services Overview

Equality recruitment services focus on creating structured shortlists and standardised evaluation criteria that promote diverse candidate pools. We deliver diversity training for hiring managers and support ongoing DE&I metrics monitoring. This approach improves representation outcomes and strengthens employer branding.

How to Implement DE&I in Hiring?

Inclusive Hiring FMCG Best Practices

Inclusive hiring in FMCG starts with neutral job descriptions and diverse sourcing channels such as social media, community groups and targeted outreach. We also train recruiters on inclusive interviewing techniques. These measures drive better candidate engagement and retention in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

Unconscious Bias Training for Recruiters

Our unconscious bias training for recruiters raises awareness of implicit attitudes that can skew decision-making. Through interactive workshops and real-world scenarios, our team is equipped to spot and mitigate bias. Continuous reinforcement via e-learning modules ensures these practices are part of our recruitment DNA.

Why Is Diversity Important in Recruitment?

Benefits of a Diverse Workforce in FMCG

A diverse workforce fuels creativity and market insight, crucial for consumer-focused industries like FMCG. Diverse teams measurably outperform: McKinsey found companies in the top quartile for ethnic diversity on executive teams were 39% more likely to financially outperform their peers (McKinsey, Diversity Matters Even More, 2023). By prioritising diversity recruitment UK, you gain access to broader talent pools and accelerate growth. Advocate Group's data-led approach tracks DE&I metrics, so you can measure impact and refine strategy over time.

Why Choose Advocate Group for DE&I?

Expertise of Our Diversity & Inclusion Consultants

Our team of diversity & inclusion consultants brings deep sector knowledge and proven methods in inclusive hiring FMCG, CPG, and wider consumer product roles, navigating the specific nuances covered in our guide on Consumer Goods vs CPG Recruitment. We blend recruitment consulting with hands-on support to build sustainable DE&I frameworks. Clients benefit from customised roadmaps and ongoing advisory services.

How We Build a Lasting DE&I Framework

We run DE&I recruitment consulting from policy creation and process audits to diversity training and candidate-engagement campaigns, adapting every programme to your culture so inclusive practice endures long after a placement.

FAQs

What does DE&I mean in recruitment?

DE&I stands for diversity, equity and inclusion, and in recruitment it means designing every stage of hiring to give candidates fair representation and equal opportunity. In practice that covers neutral job adverts, structured shortlists, standardised scoring and bias-aware interviewing, so the strongest candidate wins on merit rather than on unconscious preference.

How does Advocate Group build fairer shortlists?

Advocate Group strips bias from each touchpoint, using neutral job descriptions, diverse sourcing channels, structured shortlists and standardised evaluation criteria, then trains hiring managers on inclusive interviewing. We track DE&I metrics across the process, so representation and retention can be measured and improved rather than assumed.

Which FMCG roles benefit most from DE&I recruitment?

Every role benefits, but the impact is largest in leadership, commercial and CPG teams, where diverse perspectives drive stronger consumer insight and problem-solving. Broadening the talent pool also widens access to scarce skills, which matters most in the senior and technical seats that stay open longest in consumer goods.

How is DE&I recruitment success measured?

Success is measured on representation across shortlists and hires, candidate-experience scores, and retention of diverse talent over time. Advocate Group reports these metrics back so a client can see whether inclusion is improving, refine sourcing and process where gaps appear, and protect the investment made in each hire.

International FMCG Recruitment Services

International Recruitment

Advocate Group delivers retained executive search services to secure C-suite and specialist leaders in FMCG, CPG and consumer-products.

Executive Search Services

Executive search places senior consumer goods leaders through a retained, research-led process, from C-suite to niche functions. Advocate Group secures board and specialist talent across consumer goods, combining deep market mapping with DE&I best practice and a 96% first-year retention rate.

Key Takeaways

Advocate Group runs retained executive search for C-suite, board and specialist leaders across consumer goods, with a 96% first-year retention rate.

Retained search uses an upfront fee, a dedicated consultant and deep market mapping to reach passive leaders, unlike contingency hiring.

Most searches complete in around 28 days, with confidentiality protected by anonymised mapping and NDA-backed briefs.

Executive search for consumer goods leadership

What is executive search?

A retained, research-led process to identify, assess and place senior leaders in specialist consumer goods roles, such as a commercial director. It reaches passive candidates through market mapping and discreet approaches, and covers FMCG alongside food, drinks, beauty and CPG.

How does retained search differ from contingency?

Retained search runs on an upfront fee with guaranteed deliverables and a dedicated consultant; contingency only pays on placement. The upfront commitment funds full mapping, assessment and discreet outreach, which is why retained search suits senior or business-critical roles where a mis-hire carries real cost.

How to choose an executive search firm

Step 1. Check the track record. Ask for recent C-suite and board placements in consumer goods, with retention data, not just a client logo wall.

Step 2. Review the search method. Confirm structured market mapping and discreet passive approaches, and read how the process works and what it costs before you commit.

Step 3. Clarify fees and deliverables. Compare retained and contingency terms, and get fee schedules, milestones and guarantees in writing.

Step 4. Test confidentiality. Ask how they protect sitting executives and your brief, including anonymised approaches and NDA cover.

Why Advocate Group for executive recruitment

What levels does Advocate Group place?

From C-suite and board to niche senior specialists across consumer goods. We embed inclusive practices from sourcing through selection, so shortlists reflect diverse perspectives. A 96% first-year retention rate reflects the depth of assessment behind each placement.

FAQs

How long does an executive search take?

Most executive searches complete in around 28 days, though board and niche roles can run longer. The timeline reflects a staged process of research, mapping, approach, assessment and offer, so senior candidates are engaged carefully rather than rushed. Market scarcity and confidentiality requirements are the main factors that extend it.

How much does executive search cost?

Pricing depends on the model, the seniority of the role and research scope. Retained search carries an upfront fee with guaranteed deliverables, ideal for senior appointments; contingency ties payment to hire, better suiting mid-level roles. Advocate Group provides clear fee schedules and milestones before any search begins.

Which sectors do you cover?

Advocate Group covers consumer goods leadership across food, drinks, beauty, fashion, CPG, health & wellbeing, homeware and toys & games. Each search is run by consultants with sector-specific networks, so shortlists reach passive leaders who rarely appear on job boards. A 96% first-year retention rate reflects that specialist depth.

How do you ensure confidentiality?

Confidential searches use anonymised market mapping, coded role briefs and secure communications, so competitors and current employers never see the approach. Candidates are only named to you once they've agreed to proceed, which protects sitting executives exploring a move. Every engagement can run under NDA where the brief is sensitive.

CTA

Planning a board or C-suite hire? Book a confidential search consultation.

Project Recruitment

Contract and interim recruitment for consumer goods and FMCG roles, from supply chain to marketing. Flexible, compliant hires in two to four weeks. Enquire today.

Contract & Interim Recruitment

Contract and interim recruitment gives consumer goods brands skilled people for a fixed window, usually placed within two to four weeks. Advocate Group covers supply chain, quality, marketing and commercial roles across consumer goods and consumer products, so you cover peaks, projects and gaps without a permanent salary.

Key Takeaways

Advocate Group places contract and interim specialists across consumer goods, typically within two to four weeks.

Fixed-term hiring covers supply chain, quality, marketing and commercial roles, with no permanent salary or notice-period cost.

Transparent day and hourly rates and real-time tracking support a 98% contractor satisfaction rate.

Contract and interim hiring for consumer goods

What is contract recruitment?

Fixed-term specialists cover a defined project, peak or staff absence, paid a day or hourly rate for the contract period only. Advocate Group runs consumer goods and contract hiring across supply chain, supply and demand planning, marketing and commercial, adding capacity without a permanent headcount.

How does contract recruitment differ from permanent hiring?

Permanent hiring adds a salaried employee with notice periods and benefits; contract hiring adds a specialist for a set period on a day rate you agree upfront. That structure lets you scale to demand and release cost when the project ends, which suits launches, seasonal peaks and cover for absence.

How to brief a contract role

Step 1. Define the outcome and end date. State the project, the deliverable and the exact window, so the brief targets a fixed-term specialist rather than a permanent hire.

Step 2. Set the rate band. Agree a day or hourly range against current market benchmarks before you go to market, so offers move fast.

Step 3. Prioritise availability and fit. Shortlist on proven, relevant experience and an immediate start, not on long-term culture-add.

Step 4. Confirm compliance early. Check IR35 status, right to work and any sector clearances up front to avoid onboarding delays.

Why choose Advocate Group for contract staffing

What makes Advocate Group's contract service different?

Speed and compliance, backed by evidence. We mobilise vetted contractors within two to four weeks from pre-qualified consumer goods talent pools, and hold a 98% contractor satisfaction rate. If you're working with a specialist partner for the first time, real-time tracking keeps every placement transparent.

FAQs

When should I use contract recruitment?

Seasonal peaks, product launches, parental cover and time-limited projects are the strongest cases, because each needs skilled people for a fixed window rather than a permanent salary. Our rapid-response model mobilises vetted contractors within weeks across consumer goods, so critical work stays on schedule while you keep headcount flexible.

How fast can roles be filled?

Most contract roles are filled within two to four weeks, and urgent cover can move faster. Speed comes from pre-qualified talent pools and real-time performance tracking, so shortlisting starts on day one rather than a cold search. Time-to-fill depends on seniority, clearance and how tightly the brief is defined.

How do contract rates work?

Rates are agreed upfront as a day or hourly figure, set by role, seniority, contract length and current market benchmarks. Transparent rate structures mean no hidden margins, and you see the charge rate before any contractor starts. Longer or multi-role bookings can be structured to control overall project cost.

Do you handle IR35 and compliance?

Yes. Every contract placement is checked for IR35 status, right to work and any sector clearances before the contractor starts, so you avoid onboarding delays and liability. We manage the compliance trail end to end, from referencing to timesheet and invoice, across every consumer goods placement.

CTA

Need contract or interim cover fast? Send us the brief and we'll shortlist within days.

Commercial Director Recruitment in FMCG

Data-driven guide to UK Commercial Director salaries in FMCG. Benchmarks for 2025/2026 cover London vs regional pay, day rates, and skill premiums for RGM and Retail Media.

UK Commercial Director Salary Benchmarks 2025/2026: FMCG Guide

Recruiting senior commercial leadership in the FMCG sector has shifted from a general talent war to a sniper's pursuit of specific, high-value skill sets. You face a market where traditional commercial experience is abundant, but the modern necessity for digital fluency and Revenue Growth Management (RGM) is scarce. This guide provides the data required to navigate these compensation difficulties and secure the leadership needed to drive margin growth in a volatile economy.

Key Takeaways

Skill Scarcity: Candidates with Retail Media Excellence command a 15-25% salary premium over generalist peers.

Regional Value: A salary of £85k in Manchester offers the purchasing power equivalent of £113k in London, driving talent migration to the North West.

Speed is Critical: Offer acceptance rates plummet from 85% to 52% if the hiring process extends beyond 4 weeks.

Day Rate Trends: Interim Blue Chip Commercial Directors now command day rates up to £1,200, reflecting the urgent need for strategic transformation.

Market Temperature: Cautiously Balanced

The current market temperature is "Cautiously Balanced" but fractured by skill set. While overall permanent hiring has softened, creating a balanced environment for generalist roles, there is an acute candidate shortage for strategic positions involving RGM and digital commerce.

This division means that while you may see a high volume of applications for mid-level roles, securing a Commercial Director with hybrid digital/traditional skills requires aggressive positioning. High-demand leaders are currently receiving retention offers of £10,000-£20,000 from existing employers, making the counter-offer risk (currently 15-20%) a primary failure point for slow hiring processes.

Salary Benchmarks by Experience

Commercial Director compensation varies significantly based on tenure and the scale of the remit. The data below illustrates the progression from operational management to strategic directorship.

Primary Data Table: Salary & Day Rates

Experience Level

London Salary Range (£)

Regional UK Salary Range (£)

Avg. Day Rate (Contract)

Junior (Commercial Manager, 3-5 years)

£55,000 - £70,000

£45,000 - £60,000

£350 - £450

Mid (Senior Commercial Manager, 5-10 years)

£70,000 - £95,000

£60,000 - £85,000

£450 - £600

Senior (Commercial Director, 10-15 years)

£100,000 - £140,000

£85,000 - £120,000

£650 - £850

Lead (Commercial Director - Blue Chip, 15+ years)

£120,000 - £160,000

£100,000 - £140,000

£800 - £1,200

Table 1: Total Compensation Package Breakdown

Base salary is only one component of the total cost of employment. For Lead roles, the total package value often exceeds £300k when factoring in bonuses, pensions, and LTIPs (Long Term Incentive Plans).

Component

Junior (£)

Mid (£)

Senior (£)

Lead (£)

Base Salary (London)

55k - 70k

70k - 95k

100k - 140k

120k - 160k

Performance Bonus (20-40%)

11k - 28k

14k - 38k

20k - 56k

24k - 64k

Car Allowance (Annual)

5k - 7.4k

6k - 7.4k

7.4k

7.4k - 10k

Pension Contribution (8-15%)

4.4k - 10.5k

5.6k - 14.2k

8k - 21k

9.6k - 24k

LTIP/Share Options

-

5k - 15k

15k - 35k

25k - 60k

Total Package Range

£75.4k - £115.9k

£100.6k - £169.6k

£150.4k - £259.4k

£186k - £318k

Contract vs. Permanent Trends

The gap between contract and permanent earnings has widened as businesses utilise interim talent to execute specific transformation projects without increasing permanent headcount.

Interim leaders operating outside IR35 can generate gross annual earnings of £182,750 based on an £850 day rate, significantly outstripping the £120,000 permanent equivalent. This premium compensates for the lack of benefits and the risk of gaps between projects.

Table 5: Contract vs. Permanent Rate Comparison

Engagement Type

Daily/Annual Rate

Gross Annual Earnings

Equivalent Permanent Salary

Permanent Employment

£120,000/year

£120,000

£120,000

Contract (Inside IR35)

£750/day

£165,000

£135,000 - £145,000

Contract (Outside IR35)

£850/day

£182,750

£155,000 - £165,000

Interim (Project-Based)

£950/day

£171,000

£145,000 - £155,000

Skill & Regional Premiums

Salary offers must account for both location and specific capability gaps. The "London weighting" is no longer the only variable; distinct purchasing power advantages in regions like the East Midlands allow companies to attract top talent with lower headline salaries.

Table 3: Regional Cost-of-Living Salary Equivalents

Region

Actual Salary Range (Senior CD)

Cost Differential

London

£100,000 - £140,000

Baseline

Manchester & North West

£85,000 - £120,000

+33% purchasing power

Leeds & Yorkshire

£82,000 - £112,000

+38% purchasing power

East Midlands

£80,000 - £110,000

+40% purchasing power

Table 4: Critical Skills Premium Matrix

The scarcity of digital and analytical skills in traditional commercial profiles drives significant cost premiums.

Skill/Capability

Market Rarity

Premium Above Base

Time to Fill Role

Retail Media Excellence

Very High

+15-25%

4-6 months

Advanced Analytics/AI

Very High

+15-22%

4-7 months

Revenue Growth Mgmt (RGM)

High

+12-20%

3-5 months

Quick Commerce Strategy

High

+12-18%

3-5 months

Hiring Strategy: Speed & Flexibility

Securing talent in 2025 relies heavily on process efficiency and working model flexibility. Long hiring processes correlate directly with higher drop-off rates and increased vulnerability to counter-offers.

Table 7: Hiring Timeline Impact

Time from 1st Interview to Offer

Acceptance Rate

Counter-Offer Risk

Candidate Drop-Off Rate

1-2 weeks

78-85%

15-20%

8-12%

2-3 weeks

68-75%

22-28%

15-20%

4-6 weeks

42-52%

35-42%

35-45%

6+ weeks

28-40%

40-50%

48-60%

Table 8: Flexibility Requirements

Working Model

Acceptable to Candidates

Deal-Breaker if Not Offered

Hybrid (2 days office)

92%

3%

Hybrid (4 days office)

42%

38%

Full-time Office (5 days)

18%

65%

How We Recruit Commercial Directors

Our methodology mitigates the risks of counter-offers and skill mismatches by front-loading due diligence and accelerating the engagement phase.

Market Mapping & Direct Search

We utilise Executive Search protocols (accounting for 38% of successful hires) to identify passive candidates with niche skills like RGM or Retail Media. We bypass job boards, which yield only a 3.2 quality rating for these roles, and target individuals currently delivering value for competitors.

Agile Process Management

We condense the interview timeline to hit the hiring timeline sweet spot of 2-3 weeks. By aligning stakeholder calendars before the search begins, we maintain candidate momentum and secure acceptance rates above 70%.

Counter-Offer Stress Testing

We actively prepare candidates for the counter-offer conversation from the first screening. Understanding that 25-30% of accepted offers collapse due to retention bids, we reinforce the candidate's primary motivation for leaving throughout the process to ensure commitment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the impact of Employer National Insurance changes on budgets?

The April 2025 increase to 15% adds approximately £1,076 - £1,536 to the annual cost of employing a Senior Commercial Director. While this impact is moderate for larger firms, it is causing some SMEs to pause permanent hiring in favour of interim solutions.

How long is the typical notice period for a Commercial Director?

Senior Commercial Directors typically have a 3-month contractual notice period, which often extends to 6 months for Blue Chip roles. However, the actual average notice served is 12 weeks, with 35% of hires involving a buyout negotiation to secure an earlier start date.

Which recruitment channels are most effective for this role?

Executive Search firms are the most effective channel, accounting for 38% of hires with a quality rating of 4.3/5. LinkedIn direct sourcing accounts for 15%, while job boards are largely ineffective for Director-level roles, contributing only 2% of successful placements.

Is full-time office work viable for senior commercial roles?

No. Mandating 5 days in the office is a deal-breaker for 65% of Commercial Directors. The market standard is a hybrid model with 2-3 days in the office; deviating from this significantly reduces the accessible talent pool.

Need to benchmark a specific role?

Contact our FMCG team for a bespoke salary review or to discuss securing a Commercial Director with the specific digital skills your business needs.

A comprehensive guide to the Commercial Director role in FMCG. We cover core responsibilities, P&L ownership, salary expectations (£85k-£160k), and the career path to C-Suite.

What is a Commercial Director? (FMCG Career Guide)

What is a Commercial Director?

A commercial director is a senior executive responsible for developing and executing commercial strategies that drive revenue growth and market expansion using financial analysis tools, CRM systems, market intelligence platforms, and strategic planning frameworks to maximise profitability across sales, marketing, and business development functions within fast-moving consumer goods organisations.

What are the Core Responsibilities of a Commercial Director?

The Commercial Director serves as the architect of an organisation's profitability, bridging the gap between product creation and market consumption. They function not just as sales leaders, but as holistic business managers who own the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement.

Strategic Market Analysis

Success in FMCG requires anticipating consumer alterations before they impact the bottom line. You conduct comprehensive market research and competitive intelligence gathering to identify emerging trends within categories. This analysis informs commercial recruitment strategies and product development, ensuring the business targets high-growth opportunities rather than stagnant markets.

Commercial Strategy Development

You design integrated commercial plans that encompass pricing architecture and channel optimisation. By aligning promotional strategies with corporate objectives, you ensure that revenue growth initiatives deliver actual margin accretion rather than just driving volume at the expense of profit. This involves using revenue growth management (RGM) initiatives to optimise the "price-pack" architecture.

P&L Ownership & Financial Management

Financial intelligence is central to the role. You oversee multi-million pound budgets and set strict financial targets. By monitoring commercial performance against KPIs, you ensure operations deliver sustainable profitability while managing cost-to-serve economics. This financial oversight prevents "empty revenue" where sales costs outpace the value generated.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

You build strategic partnerships with major retailers, including the "Top 4" grocers, discounters, and e-commerce platforms. This involves negotiating commercial terms and Joint Business Plans (JBPs) that drive mutual growth. You act as the primary escalation point for complex negotiations, ensuring long-term contract value.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Board Reporting

Collaboration is essential for execution. You work with supply chain, finance, and marketing teams to ensure seamless delivery of commercial initiatives. At the executive level, you present performance data and strategic recommendations to the C-suite, directly influencing investment decisions and overall business direction.

The Commercial Director Career Path

Reaching the Commercial Director level requires a linear progression through operational sales roles into strategic management. The journey typically spans 10-15 years, evolving from tactical execution to enterprise-wide vision.

1. Entry Point (0-2 Years)

Professionals start as a Commercial Coordinator or Sales Executive. In these foundation roles, you support commercial operations by handling data analysis and account administration. This stage builds the essential understanding of how FMCG sales teams operate on the ground.

2. Progression (2-4 Years)

You advance to Account Manager or Commercial Analyst. Here, you manage specific customer relationships and develop promotional plans. Success is measured by your ability to conduct commercial analysis that improves category performance for key accounts.

3. Mid-Level (4-7 Years)

High performers move into Senior Account Manager or Commercial Manager roles. You begin leading major retail relationships and managing small teams (2-5 people). Crucially, this is where you first take ownership of a P&L for a specific channel or category, transitioning from relationship management to financial accountability.

4. Senior Level (7-10 Years)

You step up to Head of Commercial. You oversee commercial strategy across multiple channels, managing budgets of £10-50 million and leading larger teams (5-15 people). You report directly to director level, preparing you for board responsibility.

5. Director Level (10-15 Years)

You secure the Commercial Director position. You hold full commercial leadership for a business unit or geography, with P&L ownership often exceeding £50-200 million. You have strategic planning authority and sit on the board.

6. Executive Level (15+ Years)

The final evolution is to VP of Commercial Operations or Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). You hold ultimate accountability across the entire organisation, setting the enterprise-wide commercial vision.

Commercial Director vs. Sales Director vs. Marketing Director

Titles in the commercial suite often overlap, but the remit of a Commercial Director is distinct in its financial scope and strategic breadth.

Commercial Director vs. Sales Director

A Sales Director focuses primarily on revenue delivery and transactional execution. They lead teams to meet volume targets through direct customer relationships. In contrast, a Commercial Director has broader strategic responsibility encompassing pricing strategy, margin management, and category development. The Commercial Director builds the financial framework within which the Sales Director operates.

Commercial Director vs. Marketing Director

A Marketing Director concentrates on brand equity, consumer insights, and demand creation. Their goal is to build brand preference. A Commercial Director focuses on converting that brand preference into profitable sales through channel partners. They manage trade investment and retailer relationships to ensure the brand is physically available and profitably priced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications do I need to become a Commercial Director in FMCG?

A bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or finance is the minimum requirement, with many employers preferring candidates holding an MBA for larger organisations. However, proven commercial experience (typically 10-15 years) demonstrating P&L management and successful revenue growth is valued more highly than formal qualifications. Professional certifications from bodies like the CMI or IoD strengthen credentials.

How stressful is the Commercial Director role?

The Commercial Director position carries high stress levels due to significant P&L accountability and fast-paced FMCG market dynamics. Directors typically work 50-60 hours weekly during peak periods to navigate quarterly reporting cycles and difficult negotiations. However, the role offers substantial autonomy and strategic influence.

Can Commercial Directors work remotely in 2026?

Hybrid working models are standard, with organisations typically requiring 2-3 days per week in the office. Fully remote positions are rare due to the relationship-intensive nature of the role, which requires face-to-face retailer meetings and team leadership. Regular domestic travel (20-40% of time) is expected for customer visits.

What's the typical salary range for Commercial Directors in UK FMCG?

UK Commercial Director salaries generally range between £85,000 and £160,000 depending on organisation size. Blue-chip organisations pay at the top end (£120k-£160k+), while total compensation packages include 20-40% performance bonuses and Long-Term Incentive Plans (LTIPs).

How long does it take to become a Commercial Director?

The typical timeline is 10-15 years. High-performers in challenger brands may accelerate to director level in 8-10 years by demonstrating early P&L impact. Large multinational organisations typically require the full 12-15 years due to structured career frameworks.

Ready to define your commercial leadership strategy?

Contact our team to discuss your next career move or to secure a Commercial Director capable of transforming your P&L performance.

Hire a Commercial Director with proven scaling experience. We recruit revenue leaders from Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter and Baltic Triangle to drive your FMCG growth.

Commercial Director Recruitment Liverpool: Sourcing FMCG Leadersin Merseyside

Securing a Commercial Director in Merseyside involves navigating a talent landscape dominated by global manufacturing giants and high-growth discount retailers. You need a leader who can manage the low-margin, high-volume pressure of the discount sector while executing the sophisticated brand strategies required by multinational FMCG players.

Finding a candidate who possesses both this operational grit and strategic vision is challenging when competing against major employers like Unilever and The Very Group. We resolve this by targeting the specific commercial hubs where these dual-threat professionals operate.

Key Takeaways

Talent Concentration: Liverpool is home to Unilever's major manufacturing presence and Home Bargains' £4.2 billion headquarters, creating a dense pool of operational commercial talent.

Sector Crossover: The most effective Commercial Directors here blend experience from digital commerce giants like The Very Group with traditional retail distribution.

Recruitment Velocity: We leverage direct access to networks within the Knowledge Quarter and Baltic Triangle to shorten time-to-hire for strategic roles.

Market Reach: Leaders in this region manage large-scale FMCG distribution across a 1.5 million consumer catchment area.

The Liverpool Commercial Ecosystem

Why do FMCG leaders congregate in Merseyside?

FMCG leaders congregate in Merseyside because the region physically integrates high-volume manufacturing with massive retail distribution infrastructure. This unique proximity allows Commercial Director professionals to oversee the entire value chain, from production at sites like Unilever's Port Sunlight to distribution via Home Bargains' Axis Distribution Centre.

In our experience, the most capable leaders in Liverpool have cut their teeth in environments where supply chain efficiency directly dictates commercial margin. They understand that in a £4.2 billion discount retail business, commercial strategy is not just about pricing; it is about cost-to-serve optimisation. We actively target professionals who have thrived in these rigorous environments, ensuring they bring a profit-first mindset to your leadership team.

Where do digital commerce innovators operate?

Digital commerce innovators cluster around the Baltic Triangle and The Very Group's headquarters, forming a hub for omnichannel expertise. While traditional manufacturing leaders focus on physical supply chains, commercial directors from this digital cluster excel in data-driven merchandising, customer lifetime value analysis, and direct-to-consumer (D2C) growth strategies.

We frequently see that companies looking to modernise their route-to-market benefit from poaching talent out of these digital-first environments. A Commercial Director who has managed P&Ls at The Very Group (£2.1 billion revenue) brings a level of digital fluency that transforms how traditional brands approach retail partnerships. By blending these profiles, we help you build a commercial leadership team capable of winning on both the physical shelf and the digital shopfront.

Assessing Commercial Competency

How does experience with discount retail impact strategy?

Experience with discount retail, specifically within the Home Bargains ecosystem, instils a disciplined approach to margin management that is critical for the current inflationary climate. A Commercial Director who has negotiated with major suppliers for the UK's largest discount retailer understands how to extract value at every stage of the procurement and sales process.

We continually find that candidates with this background possess a "value engineering" capability. They do not just drive revenue; they engineer profitability by rigorously auditing the cost base. This skill set is invaluable for FMCG organisations looking to protect margins without sacrificing competitive pricing.

Why target talent from the Knowledge Quarter?

Talent from the Knowledge Quarter possesses a specific aptitude for commercialising innovation. As a commercial innovation district, this hub attracts leaders who are skilled at taking R&D concepts and translating them into commercially viable product lines.

We prioritise candidates who have operated in this district because they bridge the gap between product development and market execution. They understand that a product must not only be innovative but also commercially scalable across Merseyside's diverse demographic. This ability to monetise innovation is essential for businesses looking to launch new categories or disrupt existing ones.

How We Recruit Commercial Director Talent

We do not rely on generic databases. We execute precision searches within the specific commercial districts driving Liverpool's economy.

1. Retail Ecosystem Mapping

We identify P&L owners within key clusters, such as the Axis Distribution Centre in Old Swan or the digital teams at the Baltic Triangle. We look for individuals who are currently driving revenue for competitors like Allied Bakeries or The Very Group. We map out exactly who is managing the critical retail relationships and approach them directly.

2. Margin Performance Audit

We rigorously assess every candidate's track record of profitability. We do not just look at top-line growth; we verify their impact on the bottom line. We validate their experience in managing trade investment and cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) to ensure they can deliver sustainable profit growth.

3. Operational Leadership Verification

We evaluate the candidate's ability to lead large-scale teams. We specifically look for leaders who have managed cross-functional units comprising sales, marketing, and supply chain personnel. This step is crucial for ensuring they can navigate the complexity of executive search mandates in the region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What industries dominate the Liverpool commercial talent pool?

Liverpool's talent pool is dominated by FMCG manufacturing, discount retail, and digital commerce. The presence of Unilever's manufacturing base and Home Bargains' HQ creates a concentration of leaders skilled in high-volume distribution and supply chain commercialisation.

Why is the Knowledge Quarter relevant for recruitment?

The Knowledge Quarter acts as a commercial innovation district that attracts strategic leaders capable of managing complex R&D and product-to-market lifecycles. It centralises talent who bridge the gap between technical product development and commercial execution.

Do you recruit for digital commerce roles in Liverpool?

Yes, we actively recruit leaders with omnichannel expertise, leveraging the talent ecosystem surrounding The Very Group's digital commerce headquarters. This includes Commercial Directors with specific experience in online retail partnerships and direct-to-consumer strategies.

What is the typical salary for a Commercial Director in Liverpool?

Commercial Directors in Merseyside typically command salaries competitive with Manchester, often ranging from £100,000 to £140,000 depending on the scale of the P&L and scope of regional distribution responsibilities.

Is your commercial growth stalled by a leadership gap?

Contact our Liverpool team to secure a Commercial Director who understands the specific dynamics of the Merseyside FMCG market.

We place commercial directors across Manchester's food, drinks and consumer goods sector, from Trafford Park to MediaCityUK. Start your search.

Commercial Director Recruitment Manchester

Advocate Group places commercial directors for Manchester's food, drinks and consumer goods businesses, from Trafford Park's manufacturing estate to the head offices at MediaCityUK. We hunt proven P&L owners who can run Northern distribution and win the Top 4 grocers, backed by a 96 percent first-year retention rate.

Key Takeaways

Trafford Park hosts over 1,400 businesses and 30,000 employees, one of Europe's densest commercial and manufacturing clusters.

Operational and commercial hubs for Kellogg's, Unilever, L'Oréal, Procter & Gamble and Adidas UK sit inside the estate.

Kellogg's moved its 420-person UK head office to MediaCityUK's Orange Tower, pulling brand-strategy roles into the region.

Manchester leaders run national distribution across the M6, M60 and M62, the gateway for the Northern UK.

Why Manchester commercial directors are a different hire

Manchester runs two commercial talent pools at once. Trafford Park breeds operational leaders who live inside the supply chain, while MediaCityUK now houses the brand-strategy head offices that sit above it. The commercial director you need depends on which of those two problems you're solving, and we recruit from both. This is the Manchester desk of our commercial director recruitment service.

Why do FMCG giants cluster in Trafford Park?

Trafford Park is the world's first planned industrial estate, and it still gives food and consumer goods firms a single site for production and distribution at scale. Facilities for Kellogg's, Unilever and P&G sit side by side, which breeds commercial directors who read cost-to-serve as sharply as they read price. We target the P&L owners inside that cluster because they bring a grounded, bottom-line discipline to a leadership team.

How does MediaCityUK change the commercial brief?

MediaCityUK pulled head office functions off the factory floor. When Kellogg's moved its 420-person UK headquarters to Orange Tower, it put commercial, marketing and sales strategy next to digital and media firms. That attracts a different leader: brand builders fluent in digital and omnichannel retail. We help you decide which hub your hire comes from, a logistics-led operator from Trafford Park or a brand-led strategist from MediaCityUK.

What we assess in a Manchester commercial director

Why does logistics experience matter here?

Manchester is the distribution gateway for the Northern UK, so a commercial director has to manage far more than price. Leaders here run omnichannel distribution across the M6, M60 and M62, negotiating service levels, delivery windows and stock availability with the major grocers. We verify that a candidate has hit On-Time In-Full targets for real retail accounts, because in high-volume goods shelf availability is what drives revenue.

How do we test Top 4 grocery relationships?

We audit each candidate's record of Joint Business Plan negotiations with the major supermarkets. Manchester commercial directors often hold the primary relationship with Northern buying teams and regional distribution centres, so we look for evidence they've handled inflation-driven price talks and secured promotional slots. Candidates from the Trafford Park cluster have often run these accounts for global brands, and we confirm it before shortlisting.

How we recruit commercial directors in Manchester

We don't rely on job boards. We run targeted headhunting inside the business parks that drive the city's economy.

Step 1: Map the cluster. We map the talent structures inside Trafford Park's 1,400 businesses, identifying the high performers running P&Ls for your competitors, then approach them with roles that offer greater scope or autonomy.

Step 2: Audit the competency. We separate operational from strategic experience, testing whether a candidate has run a manufacturing-led P&L or a brand-led commercial function, so the shortlist matches your business model rather than a generic profile.

Step 3: Activate the network. We draw on our Greater Manchester community, tapping the informal referral links between MediaCityUK and Trafford Park to surface reputation data that never reaches a CV, and to check cultural fit before anyone enters your process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Trafford Park central to Manchester commercial hiring?

Trafford Park is the heart of consumer goods operations in Greater Manchester, home to over 1,400 businesses and 30,000 employees. Manufacturing and commercial units for firms like Unilever and P&G create a dense pool of leaders skilled in complex supply chains and retail relationships.

How does MediaCityUK influence the talent pool?

MediaCityUK shifted the region's commercial gravity, shown by Kellogg's moving its 420-person UK head office to Orange Tower. That concentration of head office functions draws commercial directors with strengths in brand strategy, digital transformation and national account management.

What does a Manchester commercial director earn?

Manchester commercial directors typically sit below the London band of £120,000 to £160,000 base, with total packages shaped by the region's lower cost base. Our salary benchmarks set the current range for the role.

What sectors dominate commercial hiring in Manchester?

Food manufacturing, consumer goods and sportswear lead the market, with Kellogg's, Adidas UK and L'Oréal among the largest employers. That mix drives demand for commercial directors who can handle high-volume goods and global brand management.

Hiring a commercial director in Manchester? Brief our Manchester team and we'll open the search. Commercial Director Recruitment London

Advocate Group places commercial directors for London's food, drinks and consumer goods businesses, from Park Royal's manufacturing estate to the capital's retail head offices. We hunt proven P&L owners who can win listings across London's convenience networks, backed by a 96 percent first-year retention rate.

Key Takeaways

London commercial directors typically earn £120,000 to £160,000 base, with total packages above £200,000.

Park Royal (NW10) is London's largest industrial estate: 1,700 businesses and 43,100 employees across 1,200 acres.

Anchor tenants like Greencore make the estate the capital's food manufacturing and convenience hub.

Proximity-to-market leaders win shelf space across London's 9 million consumers and the Southeast buying offices.

Why London commercial directors are a different hire

London runs on speed. Shelf availability across the capital is decided in minutes, not days, so the commercial director you hire has to pair high-velocity logistics with high-stakes retail negotiation. We target the industrial hub that feeds the city and the leaders who already carry that pressure. This is the London desk of our commercial director recruitment service.

What makes Park Royal central to London FMCG hiring?

Park Royal is the operational heart of London's consumer goods supply chain. Its 1,200 acres of protected industrial capacity are the only viable base for large-scale manufacturing inside the M25, so the estate's P&L owners think in production cycles measured in hours. We recruit these leaders because they bring an urgency and operational discipline that corporate-only profiles often miss.

How does Heathrow proximity shape the remit?

Heathrow sits minutes from the estate, so London commercial directors routinely manage international trade alongside domestic retail. A leader who understands the link between Prologis Park Royal distribution and Heathrow air freight can shape a route to market that serves both local grocers and export customers. We prioritise that dual capability for brands scaling beyond the UK.

What we assess in a London commercial director

Why does London retail experience matter?

The capital's retail is distinct: high-density convenience formats and quick-delivery networks that behave nothing like the national picture. The strongest candidates hold primary relationships with the Southeast buying offices of the major grocers and know the pack sizes and delivery frequencies that win in Tesco Express and Sainsbury's Local. We verify that record before we present anyone.

How do the best leaders use Park Royal's protected status?

Park Royal's Strategic Industrial Location designation guards its manufacturing capacity against residential redevelopment, giving commercial directors a secure base for long-range planning. The leaders we place turn that certainty into commercial gain, building multi-year Joint Business Plans with retailers that guarantee volume against protected capacity.

How we recruit commercial directors in London

We don't wait for applications. We hunt the people already driving revenue for your competitors across NW10.

Step 1: Map the estate. We map the commercial structures inside Park Royal's 1,700 businesses, identifying the P&L owners at the food production and logistics firms that supply London's retail networks, then approach them with broader remits.

Step 2: Test supply-chain fit. We check each candidate's ability to tie commercial promises to logistical delivery, verifying their work with distribution partners so sales targets hold up against real forecasts.

Step 3: Reference the retail network. We audit the strength of their relationships across London and Southeast buying teams, speaking to our grocer contacts to confirm a reputation for negotiation and delivery before shortlisting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a London commercial director earn?

London commercial directors typically command base salaries between £120,000 and £160,000, with total packages often above £200,000. The premium reflects the capital's cost of living and the complexity of managing London-centric retail partnerships.

Why is Park Royal important for London commercial hiring?

Park Royal is the capital's primary consumer goods manufacturing hub, home to 1,700 businesses and 43,100 employees. It supports the proximity-to-market strategies that keep London's 9 million consumers supplied with fresh and convenience food.

What kind of leader operates in NW10?

The estate attracts commercial directors skilled in high-velocity logistics and convenience distribution. They manage relationships for major tenants like Greencore and hold direct access to the London buying offices of the national grocers.

What is a commercial director, and how does the role differ by sector?

A commercial director owns revenue, margin and the customer relationships behind them. In London's consumer goods market, the role leans harder on retail negotiation, supply-chain speed and proximity-to-market strategy than it does elsewhere.

Hiring a commercial director in London? Brief our London team and we'll open the search. Head of Sales Recruitment for FMCG Brands in London

The London FMCG Head of Sales market runs at £100,000 to £170,000 base, with the highest retention pressure of any UK region because competitor employers sit inside the same commuting radius. This page covers the four clusters that anchor London commercial hiring, the sub-sectors that concentrate here, and how a retained search reaches passive candidates who never see a job board.

Key Takeaways

London and South East Head of Sales base salaries run at £100,000 to £170,000, materially above the national mid, driven by HQ competitor proximity rather than territory pay logic.

Four talent clusters anchor London FMCG commercial hiring in 2026, the Kingston HQ cluster, the Slough / Bath Road corridor, Uxbridge, and central London ExCo functions.

Sub-sector concentration skews premium spirits, personal care, household and confectionery, with drinks pulled up by Diageo's central London HQ.

Retention pressure is elevated because Heads of Sales can move between blue-chip employers inside the same commuting radius without relocating, which drives London retention spend higher than in the Midlands or North.

Advocate Group has placed FMCG commercial talent with brands including Monster Energy, Le Creuset, Campari Group, Diageo, William Grant and Sons, Illy, Beam Suntory and Kraft Heinz across the London M25 / M4 corridor.

The Four London FMCG Talent Clusters

London FMCG commercial hiring in 2026 is not London the city. It's the M25 / M4 HQ ring plus central London ExCo functions. Four clusters carry the concentration.

Kingston-upon-Thames (KT1) anchors Unilever's new UK and Ireland HQ at Sunlight House, 22 Eden Street, opened Spring 2026 following consolidation from historic Blackfriars offices. Around 2,000 Unilever employees sit on-site, covering the full UK commercial function, brand teams and executive leadership. The Eden Campus is the largest single FMCG HQ commercial concentration in south-west London.

Slough and the Bath Road corridor (SL1) anchors Reckitt at The Turner Building, 103 Bath Road, plus Mars UK's Slough footprint. Several thousand FMCG commercial roles concentrate in this corridor, with direct M4 and Elizabeth Line access to central London. Reckitt is the largest UK-listed FMCG-adjacent employer with global HQ at Slough, covering brands including Dettol, Durex, Nurofen, Harpic, Air Wick, Cillit Bang and Gaviscon.

Uxbridge (UB8) anchors Mondelez International's UK HQ. Mondelez runs the UK confectionery category from Uxbridge for both Cadbury and international brands including Toblerone, Milka and Oreo. The sensory panel Global Centre of Excellence recently relocated from Wokingham to sit alongside the commercial function.

Central London (EC / WC / SW1) anchors Diageo at Great Marlborough Street plus British American Tobacco at Globe House. The cluster concentrates ExCo and international commercial functions across premium spirits, with individual company footprints of 500 to 3,000 staff. Diageo runs global HQ for Johnnie Walker, Baileys, Guinness and Smirnoff from central London.

Which FMCG sub-sectors concentrate in London?

Premium spirits sits highest, anchored by Diageo's central London HQ plus wider on-trade commercial functions. Personal care and household concentrate around the Slough corridor via Reckitt, plus Unilever's HPC portfolio at Kingston. Confectionery concentrates around Uxbridge via Mondelez UK. Foodservice and grocery commercial functions overlay across all four clusters, with major manufacturer commercial teams travelling to retailer head offices at Tesco Welwyn, Sainsbury's Holborn and Waitrose Bracknell weekly. Field territory sales for London and the South East carries near-universal company car allowance of £8,500 to £12,500 at Head of Sales tier.

Why does London carry higher retention pressure than other UK regions?

Competitor proximity. Heads of Sales at Unilever Kingston can accept an offer from Reckitt Slough or Mondelez Uxbridge without relocating, which means retention spend has to compensate for the reduced switching cost. The premium over national mid runs at 10-15% for Head of Sales base salary. What actually drives the retention spend higher is LTIP structure, weighted to Total Shareholder Return over 3-year vests at the listed multinationals. Cash-only benchmarking against London Head of Sales offers systematically under-prices the market by 25-40% because LTIP fair value carries the top of the band.

How Advocate Group Recruits in London

The Advocate Group FMCG desk runs retained Head of Sales searches across the Kingston HQ cluster, the Slough corridor, Uxbridge and central London, with consultants who worked commercially in consumer goods themselves before moving into search. Every consultant on the desk holds live network relationships across Unilever, Reckitt, Mondelez, Diageo, PepsiCo, Mars and CCEP UK.

Placement history across the London M25 / M4 corridor includes Monster Energy, Le Creuset, Campari Group, Diageo, William Grant and Sons, Illy, Beam Suntory, Kraft Heinz and Vimto. Retained mandates run confidential candidate approach with a placement team who knows the retailer buying counterparts (Tesco Welwyn, Sainsbury's Holborn, Waitrose Bracknell, Aldi Atherstone, Lidl Wimbledon) that London Head of Sales candidates work with weekly.

The compressed 2-3 stage interview process built for the counter-offer arms race matters more in London than in any other UK region, because competitor proximity means passive candidates are approached by three or four employers inside a rolling six-month window. The salary and skill-premium detail behind those offers shapes how Advocate benchmarks LTIP against cash base before the offer goes out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Head of Sales earn in London FMCG?

London and South East Head of Sales base salaries run at £100,000 to £170,000 for 2026, with the mid at £135,000. Bonus targets are 25-40% weighted to EBITDA. LTIPs at blue-chip listed multinationals including Unilever, Reckitt, Mondelez and Diageo add 50-100% of base over a 3-year vest, taking total realised packages past £300,000 when LTIPs vest in a strong Total Shareholder Return window.

Which London postcodes concentrate FMCG Head of Sales roles?

Four postcodes anchor the market. KT1 for Unilever's Eden Campus at Kingston. SL1 for Reckitt at the Bath Road corridor and Mars UK at Slough. UB8 for Mondelez UK at Uxbridge. Central London EC / WC / SW1 for Diageo, British American Tobacco and international ExCo commercial functions. Retailer head office visits at Welwyn (Tesco), Holborn (Sainsbury's) and Bracknell (Waitrose) overlay across all four.

Where else in the UK does Advocate Group run Head of Sales searches?

Advocate runs Head of Sales retained mandates across the UK, with dedicated regional coverage in Manchester covering Trafford Park, Wigan and Bolton, and Birmingham covering Bournville and the Aston commercial hub. First, retention pressure runs higher because competitor employers sit inside the same commuting radius, so offer structure needs LTIP calibration alongside cash base. Second, the passive candidate pool is denser but more heavily approached, meaning process speed matters more. Advocate compresses interview stages to 2-3 well-designed rounds and lands offers within 2-3 weeks of first interview to protect against counter-offer collapse.

What does the day-to-day of a London Head of Sales look like?

Time allocation follows the national pattern, 15% daily sales-out review, 15% weekly commercial reviews, 20% monthly ExCo commercial pack construction, plus JBP retailer meetings that skew towards Welwyn, Holborn, Bracknell, Atherstone and Wimbledon. The full day-to-day breakdown covers what a Head of Sales in FMCG actually does, including tool stack, cross-functional stewardship and the differentiator from SNAM tier.

Hiring a Head of Sales in London

Advocate Group runs retained Head of Sales searches across the Kingston HQ cluster, the Slough corridor, Uxbridge and central London ExCo functions.

Head of Sales Recruitment for FMCG Brands in Manchester

Manchester FMCG Head of Sales base salaries run at £82,000 to £140,000, roughly 10% below London mid but purchasing-power neutral at £85,000 equivalent to £113,000 in London. This page covers the four clusters that anchor North West commercial hiring, the integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing remits that make Manchester distinct, and how a retained search reaches passive candidates across the M6 food manufacturing corridor.

Key Takeaways

North of England Head of Sales base salaries run at £82,000 to £140,000 in 2026, with the mid at £110,000, purchasing-power neutral against London at the same tier.

Four talent clusters anchor Manchester FMCG commercial hiring, Trafford Park, Manchester Business Park at Northenden, the Wigan / Warrington / Bolton M6 corridor, and the MediaCityUK DTC cluster.

Manchester Head of Sales roles carry integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing remits at a scale London rarely does, which changes what "good" looks like at the shortlist stage.

Sub-sector concentration skews food, cereal, personal care and household, anchored by Kellanova, PZ Cussons, Kraft Heinz and Warburtons.

Advocate Group has placed FMCG commercial talent with brands including Vimto (Nichols plc) and Princes Food Group across the wider North West cluster.

The Four Manchester FMCG Talent Clusters

North West FMCG commercial hiring in 2026 sits inside four distinct clusters, each with its own sub-sector concentration and career pattern.

Trafford Park (M17 / M32) anchors Kellanova UK, the post-Kellogg's-split commercial and manufacturing entity headquartered at Stretford M32 8RA, plus historic Kraft Heinz manufacturing footprint. The Manchester Plant opened in 1938 and was historically the largest food factory in Europe, giving the North West a rare integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing FMCG cluster. Wider Trafford Park hosts 900+ food and drink manufacturing and related services companies including Kellanova, Heineken, Kraft Heinz and McVities. Motorway connectivity across M60, M62 and M6 plus Manchester Airport 15 minutes away make the cluster the anchor of the North West FMCG manufacturing corridor.

Manchester Business Park at Northenden (M22) anchors PZ Cussons global HQ. The FTSE-listed manufacturer runs Imperial Leather, Carex, Original Source and Sanctuary Spa from Northenden, employing around 2,411 UK staff and 5,800 worldwide with turnover £513.8 million in FY25. Manchester Business Park sits close to Manchester Airport and the M56, giving PZ Cussons global-HQ connectivity from a Northern UK base. The cluster is central to any Head of Sales candidate map for the North West personal care and hygiene sub-segment.

The Wigan / Warrington / Bolton M6 corridor (WN / WA / BL) anchors Kraft Heinz at Kitt Green Wigan, one of the largest food production sites in Europe, plus Warburtons at Bolton BL1 head office and bakeries. Several thousand employees sit across Kitt Green and Warburtons' UK-wide bakery network. Commercial functions overlay via northern regional commercial offices, which is the pattern that Head of Sales candidates recognise as the "Manchester FMCG cluster" in career terms.

MediaCityUK and Salford Quays (M50) anchors THG plc at global consumer brands HQ, plus Boohoo, N Brown Group and Adidas EMEA digital commercial functions. THG plc alone employs several thousand across the digital consumer brands cluster. The cluster is less core to traditional retail-grocery Head of Sales searches but increasingly relevant as branded FMCG manufacturers hire digitally-fluent commercial leaders. Retail Media Excellence talent flows through this cluster, commanding a 15-25% salary premium at Head of Sales tier.

Which FMCG sub-sectors concentrate in Manchester?

Food and cereal sit highest, anchored by Kellanova at Trafford Park and Kraft Heinz at Kitt Green. Personal care and household concentrate around Manchester Business Park via PZ Cussons. Bakery and ambient food concentrate around Bolton via Warburtons. Drinks and hospitality overlay across the region via Heineken and regional beverage brands. Field territory sales for the North of England carries near-universal company car allowance of £8,500 to £12,500 at Head of Sales tier, with route-to-market patches often covering the whole North West and into Yorkshire.

Why do Manchester Head of Sales roles carry integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing remits?

Physical co-location. Kellanova's UK commercial function sits alongside the Manchester Plant at Trafford Park. Kraft Heinz commercial teams work in physical proximity to Kitt Green Wigan. Warburtons runs commercial and bakery operations from Bolton. This changes the Head of Sales remit in three ways. First, forecast accuracy conversations happen face-to-face with supply chain rather than over Teams. Second, the JBP conversation carries a supply chain angle that London-based commercial leaders often outsource. Third, hiring managers weight supply chain fluency higher at shortlist stage than the equivalent Kingston or Slough role would. Candidates who came up through Kingston or Slough sometimes struggle to convert these remits at final panel.

How Advocate Group Recruits in Manchester

The Advocate Group FMCG desk runs retained Head of Sales searches across Trafford Park, the M6 food manufacturing corridor, Manchester Business Park at Northenden and the MediaCityUK DTC cluster. Every consultant on the desk holds live network relationships with Kellanova, PZ Cussons, Kraft Heinz UK, Warburtons, Heineken UK, McVities and the wider North West challenger-brand cohort.

Placement history across the wider North West cluster includes Vimto at Nichols plc in Newton-le-Willows, and Princes Food Group in Liverpool. Retained mandates run confidential candidate approach with a placement team who knows the retailer buying counterparts (Co-op Manchester Angel Square, Asda Leeds, Morrisons Bradford) that North West Head of Sales candidates work with weekly.

The purchasing-power arbitrage matters at offer stage. A £110,000 base in Manchester delivers equivalent lifestyle to £135,000 in London once housing and commute costs are factored in. That said, hiring managers still lose candidates to counter-offers of £10,000 to £20,000 above current base at 40-55% frequency, so the salary and premium bands need calibrating against the RGM and Retail Media Excellence credentials the candidate holds before the offer goes out. The Commercial Director hiring guide at the tier above covers how PE-backed North West challenger brands compete on carry structure to close the cash gap against blue-chip London.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Head of Sales earn in Manchester FMCG?

North of England Head of Sales base salaries run at £82,000 to £140,000 for 2026, with the mid at £110,000. Bonus targets are 25-40% weighted to EBITDA. LTIPs at blue-chip listed multinationals including Kellanova and Kraft Heinz add 50-100% of base over a 3-year vest. Purchasing-power parity means £110,000 in Manchester equivalent to £135,000 in London once housing and commute costs are factored in.

Which Manchester postcodes concentrate FMCG Head of Sales roles?

Four postcodes anchor the market. M17 / M32 for Kellanova UK at Trafford Park. M22 for PZ Cussons at Manchester Business Park Northenden. WN for Kraft Heinz at Kitt Green Wigan and BL1 for Warburtons at Bolton. M50 for THG plc and DTC commercial functions at MediaCityUK. Retailer buying visits skew towards Co-op Manchester Angel Square, Asda Leeds and Morrisons Bradford.

What's different about a Manchester Head of Sales role compared to London?

Integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing remits. Kellanova commercial sits alongside the Manchester Plant at Trafford Park. Kraft Heinz commercial sits close to Kitt Green Wigan. Warburtons runs commercial and bakery from Bolton. This means supply chain fluency and forecast accuracy conversations weight higher at shortlist stage than in London-anchored roles. Candidates who came up through Kingston or Slough sometimes struggle to convert at final panel.

Where else in the UK does Advocate Group run Head of Sales searches?

Advocate runs Head of Sales retained mandates across the UK, with dedicated regional coverage in London covering the Kingston HQ cluster, Slough corridor and Uxbridge, and Birmingham covering Bournville and the Aston commercial hub. JBP retailer meetings skew towards Manchester Angel Square, Leeds and Bradford. Broader coverage of what a Head of Sales in FMCG actually does sits inside the definition guide.

Hiring a Head of Sales in Manchester

Advocate Group runs retained Head of Sales searches across Trafford Park, the M6 food manufacturing corridor, Manchester Business Park at Northenden and the MediaCityUK DTC cluster.

Head of Sales Recruitment for FMCG Brands in Birmingham

Birmingham FMCG Head of Sales base salaries run at £88,000 to £150,000, with the West Midlands carrying the second-deepest sample in the UK after London and South East. This page covers the four clusters that anchor West Midlands commercial hiring, the confectionery and challenger-brand concentration that defines Birmingham, and how a retained search reaches passive candidates across the M42 corridor.

Key Takeaways

West Midlands Head of Sales base salaries run at £88,000 to £150,000 in 2026, with the mid at £118,000, tracking closely to the East Midlands cell.

Four talent clusters anchor Birmingham FMCG commercial hiring, Bournville, Aston, Digbeth and the M42 / Solihull corridor.

Sub-sector concentration skews confectionery, snacks and food challenger brands, anchored by Mondelez Bournville and a growing PE-backed challenger base.

Bournville is the largest single FMCG commercial-plus-manufacturing site outside London, employing around 4,000 UK Mondelez colleagues across nine UK sites.

Advocate Group ran a live Category Director Food Birmingham cluster mandate in April 2026, confirming Birmingham signal strength on food commercial roles.

The Four Birmingham FMCG Talent Clusters

West Midlands FMCG commercial hiring in 2026 concentrates inside four clusters, each with its own sub-sector concentration and heritage anchor.

Bournville (B30) anchors Mondelez International UK at the Cadbury Bournville factory. The site opened in 1879 and celebrated Cadbury's 200-year heritage in 2024. Mondelez runs a Global Centre of Excellence for Chocolate R&D at Bournville, employing around 4,000 UK colleagues across nine UK sites including six factories, three R&D sites and two global research hubs. A £200 million investment programme since 2012 includes £75 million on production line upgrades. Every new Mondelez chocolate product across 150 countries "starts its life in Bournville", giving the cluster the deepest chocolate confectionery alumni network in Europe.

Aston and the Aston Triangle (B4) anchors Mondelez UK's commercial hub at Aston University John Cadbury House, distinct from the Bournville R&D and manufacturing base. The two-site Birmingham footprint means Mondelez Head of Sales candidates frequently rotate between Aston commercial and Bournville R&D roles across a career. Aston Business Park adjacent hosts wider commercial services.

Digbeth, the Custard Factory and Jewellery Quarter (B9 / B18) anchors the challenger-brand cluster. Aston Manor Cider sits in Aston, and Typhoo Tea's Birmingham heritage runs back to 1903 (now under Supreme Imports since 2024). Alongside heritage names, dozens of challenger-brand FMCG SMEs concentrate here across food, drink and DTC, employing tens to low hundreds each. Growing PE interest in Birmingham food-and-drink challenger brands has lifted this cluster's relevance for Interim Head of Sales and fractional mandates.

Solihull and the M42 corridor (B37) anchors Solihull Parkway commercial park plus NEC Birmingham for trade shows including IFE and Food Matters Live. The cluster sits at the intersection of M42, M6 and M40, making it the natural commercial-services anchor for the wider West Midlands FMCG manufacturing corridor. Birmingham International railway station connects Bournville and Aston sites in under 30 minutes.

Which FMCG sub-sectors concentrate in Birmingham?

Chocolate confectionery sits highest, anchored by Mondelez Bournville. Snacks and biscuits overlay via Mondelez's wider UK portfolio (Belvita, Ritz, Oreo commercial). Tea heritage runs through Typhoo despite the change of ownership. Cider and beverages anchor at Aston Manor. Food challenger brands and NPD-led SMEs concentrate around Digbeth and the M42 corridor. The Birmingham Head of Sales search pool is disproportionately weighted to confectionery, snacks and HFSS 2026 regulatory response candidates because the category concentration structurally forces those specialisms.

Why does Birmingham carry the second-deepest FMCG sample after London?

Mondelez concentration plus the M42 challenger-brand corridor. At the blue-chip end, Mondelez's 4,000-employee Bournville and Aston footprint is the largest single FMCG commercial-plus-manufacturing site outside London. At the challenger-brand end, PE interest in West Midlands food-and-drink SMEs has grown steadily through 2025-2026, with several mid-market food manufacturers preparing for sale or scaling ahead of series funding. This dual concentration gives Birmingham a Head of Sales search pool wider than any other UK region except London and South East. Sub-sector skew towards confectionery means the pool is thinner outside chocolate, snacks and food, so hiring managers running Birmingham searches in drinks or personal care sub-sectors need to widen the geographic net to the M6 corridor or London and South East to reach adequate candidate depth.

How Advocate Group Recruits in Birmingham

The Advocate Group FMCG desk runs retained Head of Sales searches across Bournville, Aston, Digbeth and the M42 / Solihull corridor. Every consultant on the desk holds live network relationships with Mondelez UK commercial and R&D, the challenger-brand food-and-drink cohort across Digbeth and Solihull, and the wider West Midlands manufacturing base.

Category Director Food Birmingham was a live Advocate cluster mandate in April 2026, confirming signal strength on Birmingham food commercial roles. The mandate covered Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol geographies, with the Birmingham cell delivering the highest response rate. Retained mandates run confidential candidate approach with a placement team who knows the retailer buying counterparts (Sainsbury's Coventry, Tesco Welwyn, Aldi Atherstone) that West Midlands Head of Sales candidates work with weekly.

Birmingham confectionery searches carry a specific complexity around HFSS 2026 regulatory response. Candidates need to demonstrate reformulation project experience, non-HFSS range extension delivery, and category innovation output at Kantar-verifiable scale. The salary premium detail across the six FMCG credentials that lift Head of Sales base by 10-25% shows exactly how HFSS regulatory fluency layers alongside RGM and Retail Media Excellence at offer stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Head of Sales earn in Birmingham FMCG?

West Midlands Head of Sales base salaries run at £88,000 to £150,000 for 2026, with the mid at £118,000. Bonus targets are 25-40% weighted to EBITDA. LTIPs at Mondelez UK add 50-100% of base over a 3-year vest. The West Midlands cell tracks closely to the East Midlands, with mid slightly below London and South East. PE-backed challenger brands in the Digbeth and M42 corridor close the cash gap with carry structure.

Which Birmingham postcodes concentrate FMCG Head of Sales roles?

Four postcodes anchor the market. B30 for Mondelez Bournville. B4 for Aston University John Cadbury House and Aston Business Park. B9 and B18 for Digbeth, the Custard Factory and Jewellery Quarter challenger-brand cluster. B37 for Solihull Parkway and NEC Birmingham on the M42. Retailer buying visits skew towards Sainsbury's Coventry, Tesco Welwyn and Aldi Atherstone.

What sub-sectors does Birmingham skew towards?

Chocolate confectionery, snacks, biscuits and food challenger brands. Mondelez Bournville anchors the blue-chip confectionery concentration with 4,000 UK colleagues across nine UK sites. Aston Manor Cider anchors cider and beverages. The Digbeth and M42 challenger-brand corridor anchors food-and-drink SMEs and NPD-led scale-ups. HFSS 2026 regulatory response candidates concentrate here because category dominance structurally forces the specialism.

Where else in the UK does Advocate Group run Head of Sales searches?

Advocate runs Head of Sales retained mandates across the UK, with dedicated regional coverage in London covering the Kingston HQ cluster, Slough corridor and Uxbridge, and Manchester covering Trafford Park, Wigan and Bolton. Head of Sales FMCG Recruitment Birmingham

Head of Sales FMCG Recruitment in Birmingham 2026

Advocate Group runs retained FMCG Category Manager searches across Birmingham, Bournville and the M42 corridor. 2026 benchmarks and search timelines.

Hire an FMCG Category Manager in Birmingham

Birmingham FMCG Category Manager searches concentrate around Bournville confectionery, the Aston commercial hub, and the growing challenger-brand corridor across Digbeth and Solihull. This page covers the tier, the pay bands and the retained mandate process Advocate Group runs for Category Manager hires across the West Midlands.

Key Takeaways

Category Manager base salaries in Birmingham FMCG for 2026 run £48,000 to £68,000 at manager tier and £60,000 to £82,000 at senior category manager tier, tracking the West Midlands cell across the FMCG salary framework.

Birmingham FMCG Category Manager searches concentrate at three clusters, Bournville (Mondelez confectionery), Aston (Mondelez commercial), and the Digbeth / Solihull challenger-brand corridor.

Category Manager candidate pools have tightened through 2025-2026 as CPG demand for Kantar and NIQ analytical talent has outpaced supply, with the strongest candidates commanding 10-15% premium over headline band.

Retained mandates for Birmingham Category Manager roles average 3-4 weeks brief to accepted offer at Advocate Group, versus the wider UK sector average of 8-10 weeks at this tier.

Where FMCG Category Manager Roles Concentrate in Birmingham

Three clusters carry the concentration.

Bournville (B30) anchors Mondelez International UK confectionery category work. Mondelez runs the UK chocolate category, Cadbury heritage brands, plus international portfolio (Toblerone, Milka, Oreo) from Bournville. Category Manager roles at Bournville skew towards confectionery-specific Kantar Worldpanel and NIQ Homescan analysis, with an emerging non-HFSS category focus following the October 2025 HFSS 2026 restrictions coming into force.

Aston (B4) anchors Mondelez UK's commercial hub at Aston University John Cadbury House, distinct from the Bournville R&D and manufacturing base. Category Manager roles at Aston sit alongside NAM and SNAM teams, feeding retailer JBP conversations with category insight and shopper behaviour data. The two-site Mondelez footprint means Category Manager candidates in Birmingham often rotate between Aston commercial and Bournville R&D roles across a career.

Digbeth, Solihull and the wider M42 corridor anchor the challenger-brand cluster. PE interest in West Midlands food-and-drink challenger brands has grown steadily through 2025-2026, pulling Category Manager demand into SME environments where the role covers Kantar analysis, retailer JBP support, and NPD commercial forecasting in a single remit. Challenger-brand Category Manager roles carry wider scope than blue-chip equivalents and often report directly into the Head of Sales or Commercial Director rather than a Category Insights Director.

What a Birmingham FMCG Category Manager Earns in 2026

Category Manager salary tier progression follows the wider West Midlands FMCG salary framework, tracking closely to the East Midlands cell and sitting slightly below London and South East.

Tier

Base Salary (West Midlands, 2026)

OTE

Typical Employer

Category Analyst

£36k-£48k

£40k-£55k

Blue-chip and challenger

Category Manager

£48k-£68k

£55k-£78k

Blue-chip and mid-market

Senior Category Manager

£60k-£82k

£70k-£95k

Blue-chip

Head of Category / Category Director

£75k-£110k

£90k-£140k + LTIP

Blue-chip and PE-backed

Category Manager candidates with proven Kantar Worldpanel, NIQ Homescan and Circana fluency command 10-15% premium above headline band at senior tier, driven by tight supply and rising demand from HFSS-response reformulation programmes across confectionery and snacks. Broader coverage of the wider Category Manager career map covering salaries and progression routes sits inside the career guide.

Why Birmingham FMCG Category Manager Candidates Are Getting Harder to Find

Three factors have tightened the Birmingham Category Manager pool through 2025-2026. First, HFSS 2026 restrictions came into force on 1 October 2025 and forced confectionery and snacks manufacturers into intensified category defence work. Mondelez Bournville, the largest single Birmingham FMCG commercial-plus-manufacturing site, ramped Category Manager and Category Insights hiring to support non-HFSS pipeline construction and category share defence.

Second, PE-backed challenger brand growth across the M42 corridor has created a second tier of Category Manager demand outside the Mondelez ecosystem. Challenger brands hire Category Managers with different competency emphasis (NPD forecasting, retailer trade term construction, wider commercial scope) than blue-chip equivalents, meaning the candidate pool has fragmented into two sub-pools that do not always overlap.

Third, the underlying UK CPG category management market has been tightening at national level, not just Birmingham. Why CPG category management candidates have got harder to find covers the national supply dynamics behind the tight pool, including the shift in graduate scheme intake priorities at blue-chip manufacturers and the pull of Retail Media Excellence roles that draw talent out of traditional category management remits.

How Advocate Group Runs Birmingham Category Manager Searches

The FMCG recruitment desk runs retained Category Manager mandates across Bournville, Aston and the M42 challenger-brand corridor. Consultants on the desk hold live network relationships across Mondelez UK, the Birmingham challenger-brand cohort, and the wider West Midlands consumer goods manufacturing base.

Delivery motion runs three specific Birmingham adjustments. Passive candidate maps refreshed against Kantar Worldpanel and NIQ Homescan competency filters. Retained mandate structure with confidential candidate approach. Compressed 2-3 stage interview architecture landing offers within 3-4 weeks of brief.

Category Manager searches at senior tier feed directly into the wider commercial function, and Category Manager progression into Head of Sales and Commercial Director tier follows a well-mapped career ladder. Sibling Advocate coverage of Head of Sales recruitment in Birmingham covers the tier where Category Manager candidates progress to over 5 to 8 years, and Commercial Director hiring conversations across UK FMCG cover the tier beyond that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an FMCG Category Manager do?

Category Managers own category performance analysis, shopper behaviour tracking and category-level commercial recommendations for retailers and brand owners. Day-to-day involves Kantar Worldpanel, NIQ Homescan and Circana data analysis, retailer JBP category insight support, promotional ROI evaluation, and range review contribution. Category Managers work alongside National Account Managers and Marketing Managers on integrated commercial and marketing planning.

What's the typical career path from Category Manager?

Category Analyst progresses to Category Manager over 3 to 5 years, then Senior Category Manager over 5 to 8 years, then Head of Category or Category Director over 10 to 12 years. Some Category Managers cross-move into National Account Manager or Marketing Manager roles at similar tier, expanding commercial breadth. Progression into Head of Sales or Commercial Director follows 8 to 12 years from Category Manager tier.

Which Birmingham employers hire FMCG Category Managers?

Mondelez UK dominates at blue-chip tier, with Category Manager roles concentrated at Bournville confectionery and Aston commercial hub. Challenger brand employers across the Digbeth and M42 corridor include cider producers, food-and-drink SMEs, and PE-backed challenger platforms. Adjacent CPG employers including personal care and household manufacturers occasionally hire into Birmingham for regional commercial coverage.

How long does a Category Manager search take in Birmingham?

Sector average time-to-hire across UK Category Manager roles runs 8 to 10 weeks brief to accepted offer in 2026. Advocate Group retained mandates for Birmingham Category Manager roles average 3 to 4 weeks by running compressed 2-3 stage interview processes and confidential passive candidate approach against pre-mapped shortlists rather than reactive longlists.

Hiring a Category Manager in Birmingham FMCG

Advocate Group runs retained FMCG Category Manager searches across Bournville, Aston and the M42 challenger-brand corridor with 3-4 week brief-to-offer compression.

Hiring a category manager in London means competing for the deepest category-management pool in the UK, and the best of it is already employed. London holds around 669 live category manager roles at any time (Glassdoor, 2026) and the highest pay in the country, so a strong candidate fields multiple approaches and moves only for the right brief. Advocate Group sources category managers from a live network across the capital's consumer-goods and grocery head offices, including the passive candidates a cold advert never reaches.

Key Takeaways

London category managers earn an average base of £61,296, roughly 13 percent above the national figure, with a typical range of £48,451 to £78,539 and top earners near £99,543 (Glassdoor, July 2026).

FMCG category manager pay nationally averages £53,382 base, so London carries a clear premium that a brief has to reflect (Glassdoor, 2025).

Around 669 category manager roles run live in London at any time, and the strongest candidates are employed, not applying (Glassdoor, 2026).

London category employers span consumer-goods brands such as innocent, pladis Global and Church & Dwight, giving a wide but tightly contested talent pool.

The role blends category strategy, data analysis and retailer influence, so a specialist search screens for capability a job title alone does not prove.

Where the Best Category Managers Sit in London

The best London category managers sit inside consumer-goods brand head offices and grocery-facing teams, clustered across central and west London. Employers actively hiring category managers include innocent, owning category strategy across high street, foodservice and on-trade at £44,000 to £48,000, pladis Global at a £51,000 median, and Church & Dwight at £71,000 to £87,000 for senior fixed-term category work (Glassdoor, 2026). That spread reflects a market where category depth and retailer exposure move pay quickly.

The talent concentrates because London is where the major FMCG commercial functions sit, so category managers can change employer without leaving the city. That density is an advantage and a trap. The pool is large, but the strongest candidates are known, courted and rarely on the boards, which is why a search has to map the employers and approach people directly. The route into category work often runs through commercial and account roles, so the category manager career path and salary bands explain where London candidates come from and what moves them.

What a Category Manager Earns in London

A London category manager earns an average base of £61,296, with a typical range of £48,451 to £78,539 and additional pay around £7,000 (Glassdoor, July 2026). That is roughly 13 percent above the national average, and top earners reach £99,543. FMCG-specific category managers nationally average £53,382 base (Glassdoor, 2025), so a London FMCG brief has to price in the capital premium or the search stalls.

Pay tracks category complexity and retailer scale. A category manager owning a top-four grocer relationship commands more than one covering a regional or foodservice channel, and the strongest candidates carry both analytical and negotiation strength. Because category managers overlap heavily with national and key account roles, benchmarking against national account manager pay and the wider FMCG sales roles and OTE structures helps a London employer set a package that competes for cross-functional commercial talent.

How We Recruit Category Managers in London

We recruit London category managers from a live specialist network, reaching candidates who are performing rather than applying. Our approach maps the capital's category employers and approaches the right people directly, so a brief reaches the market rather than whoever happens to be looking.

We scope the role against the London market, separating genuine must-haves from an internal wish list.

We benchmark the package to London category pay before you advertise.

We source passively, approaching category managers across consumer-goods and grocery head offices.

We shortlist through a compressed two-stage process with a fast decision, because strong candidates hold multiple offers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a category manager earn in London

A London category manager earns an average base of £61,296, with a typical range of £48,451 to £78,539 and additional pay around £7,000 (Glassdoor, July 2026). That is roughly 13 percent above the national average, and top earners reach £99,543. FMCG-specific category roles average £53,382 base nationally, so London carries a clear premium.

Which London employers hire category managers

London category employers span consumer-goods brands and grocery-facing teams, including innocent, pladis Global and Church & Dwight, alongside retail and procurement functions across the capital. The concentration of FMCG head offices means category talent can change employer without leaving London, which makes the pool large but tightly contested.

What skills does an FMCG category manager need

An FMCG category manager needs category strategy, strong data analysis, retailer and shopper insight, and the influence to turn category recommendations into range and space decisions with buyers. The role runs on evidence, so fluency in category data and the ability to build a retailer-facing case matter more than a job title alone.

How quickly can you hire a category manager in London

A specialist search compresses a hire that a cold advert leaves open for weeks, because the constraint is reaching employed candidates, not application volume. We shortlist from a live London network and recommend a two-stage process with a fast decision, which protects offer acceptance in a market where strong candidates hold several approaches.

Hire a Category Manager in London

Advocate Group sources category managers across London's consumer-goods and grocery head offices from a live specialist network. Category Manager Recruitment in London for FMCG Brands

Category Manager Recruitment in London

Hire a head of supply chain in Manchester with a specialist FMCG recruiter. We source supply chain leaders across Greater Manchester and the North West.

Head of Supply Chain Recruitment Across Greater Manchester

A head of supply chain role in Manchester needs a leader who can own procurement, planning, inventory and logistics end to end, and that profile is scarce across the North West. Supply chain leadership pay has risen sharply as volatility has made the seat business-critical, and a UK head of supply chain now averages £85,043 in total reward (Glassdoor, January 2026). Advocate Group sources supply chain leaders from a live network across Greater Manchester's FMCG and consumer-goods base, reaching the senior candidates who never reach a job board.

Key Takeaways

A UK head of supply chain averages £85,043 in total reward, with a base range of £62,000 to £87,000 plus around £12,000 additional pay (Glassdoor, January 2026).

Greater Manchester supply chain leadership pays strongly, with head of strategic sourcing roles at £70,000 to £80,000 and senior supply chain managers reaching £84,000 (Michael Page and Indeed, 2026).

The seat demands leadership across procurement, planning, inventory, logistics and warehousing at once, which narrows the candidate pool sharply.

Manchester's supply chain talent concentrates around Trafford Park, the Co-op's city-centre function and the wider North West manufacturing base.

Senior supply chain candidates are routinely counter-offered, so a slow process loses them, and a specialist search reaches passive leaders directly.

Where the Best Supply Chain Leaders Sit in Manchester

Manchester's supply chain leaders sit across Trafford Park, the Co-op's city-centre supply chain function and the wider North West FMCG manufacturing base. Live Greater Manchester roles include head of strategic sourcing positions at £70,000 to £80,000 and direct procurement management, with much of the activity anchored around Trafford Park (Michael Page, 2026). The Co-op, headquartered in Manchester, runs a large supply chain team with manager roles spanning £54,000 to £95,000 (Glassdoor, 2026).

The talent concentrates because the North West carries a dense food, drink and consumer-goods manufacturing base that trains supply chain leaders and keeps them in the region. Stockport, Oldham, Trafford and Rochdale all pay above the Manchester city average for supply chain management (Indeed, 2026), which shows how the demand spreads across Greater Manchester rather than sitting in one postcode. Because the role blends planning and procurement leadership, the demand and supply planning talent pool feeds the pipeline into these senior seats.

What a Head of Supply Chain Earns in Manchester

A head of supply chain in Manchester earns toward the UK average of £85,043 total reward, with senior supply chain managers in the region reaching around £84,000 and head of strategic sourcing roles at £70,000 to £80,000 (Glassdoor, Indeed and Michael Page, 2026). Pay rises with the scale of the operation, the number of sites and the complexity of the supplier base.

The premium reflects scarcity. The seat requires proven leadership across procurement, planning, inventory, logistics and warehousing in one person, and few candidates carry all five at the depth a multi-site FMCG operation needs. Because a senior supply chain mis-hire is expensive and slow to unwind, the businesses filling these roles well use a mapped, direct approach rather than an advert, in the same way they would use FMCG executive search for any leadership hire. The same scarcity runs through adjacent sectors, and the supply chain roles in UK drinks show the same leadership premium.

How We Recruit Supply Chain Leaders in Manchester

We recruit Greater Manchester supply chain leaders from a live specialist network, approaching senior candidates who are performing rather than applying. The approach maps the region's FMCG and consumer-goods employers and reaches leaders directly, because the strongest are settled and not on the boards.

We scope the leadership brief against the North West market, from single-site to multi-site remits.

We benchmark the package to Greater Manchester supply chain leadership pay.

We source passively, approaching heads of supply chain and strategic sourcing across the region.

We manage a confidential, decisive process, because senior candidates move quietly and hold options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a head of supply chain earn in Manchester

A head of supply chain in Manchester earns toward the UK average of £85,043 total reward, with a base range of £62,000 to £87,000 plus around £12,000 additional pay (Glassdoor, January 2026). Senior supply chain managers in the region reach around £84,000, and head of strategic sourcing roles run at £70,000 to £80,000.

Which Manchester employers hire supply chain leaders

Manchester supply chain leaders work across Trafford Park, the Co-op's city-centre function and the wider North West FMCG manufacturing base. Demand spreads across Greater Manchester, with Stockport, Oldham, Trafford and Rochdale all paying above the city average, so the talent pool covers the whole region rather than one location.

What does a head of supply chain do

A head of supply chain owns end-to-end supply performance across procurement, planning, inventory, logistics and warehousing, aligning cost, service and resilience across a multi-site operation. The seat combines strategic leadership with operational control, which is why it demands a leader who has run each of those functions rather than a single specialism.

Why is a head of supply chain hard to hire

A head of supply chain is hard to hire because the seat needs proven leadership across procurement, planning, inventory, logistics and warehousing in one person, and few candidates carry all five at the required depth. Senior leaders are also settled and counter-offered, so they move only for a strong, confidentially handled brief.

Hire a Head of Supply Chain in Manchester

Advocate Group sources supply chain leaders across Trafford Park, the Co-op and the wider North West from a live specialist network. Talk to our FMCG recruitment team about the seat and we'll benchmark it, source it and shortlist against the market.

Head of Supply Chain Recruitment in Manchester

Hire a national account manager in London with a specialist FMCG recruiter. We source grocery and commercial account talent across the capital.

Hire a National Account Manager in London for Your FMCG Business

Hiring a national account manager in London means competing for grocery and commercial account talent at the top of the UK pay scale. London carries a 10 to 15 percent premium on national account pay, and strong candidates hold three to six approaches at a time, so the market moves fast (Coburg Banks, 2026). Advocate Group sources national account managers from a live network across the capital's FMCG and consumer-goods head offices, reaching the commercial talent that never reaches a job board.

Key Takeaways

A UK national account manager earns a base of £45,000 to £72,000, median around £58,000, plus bonus and car, with London adding a 10 to 15 percent premium (Coburg Banks, 2026).

Senior national account managers on major grocers reach £65,000 to £90,000, and London grocery roles run to £86,000 at senior level (Lime Talent and Michael Page, 2026).

London holds the deepest pool of FMCG commercial head offices, so account talent can change employer without leaving the city.

The role turns on defending margin inside a retailer joint business plan, so the strongest candidates carry trade-investment and profit-and-loss ownership.

London account candidates are heavily counter-offered, so a slow process loses them and a specialist search reaches passive candidates directly.

Where the Best National Account Managers Sit in London

London's national account managers sit inside FMCG and consumer-goods commercial head offices across the capital, from grocery-facing brand teams to premium and challenger businesses. Live London roles include grocery national account manager positions at £50,000 to £65,000 and senior grocery roles managing Tesco and Sainsbury's relationships at £69,000 to £86,000 (Michael Page, 2026). The density of commercial head offices means London holds more national-account talent than any other UK market.

That concentration cuts both ways. The pool is deep, but the strongest account managers are known to competitors, courted and rarely applying, so a search has to map the employers and approach people directly. Account managers progress from key-account and field-sales roles, so the career path from field sales to national accounts explains where London candidates come from and what makes them move.

What a National Account Manager Earns in London

A London national account manager earns a base of £45,000 to £72,000, median around £58,000, plus bonus and a car that push the package past £80,000, with London adding a 10 to 15 percent premium (Coburg Banks, 2026). Senior national account managers on major multiples reach £65,000 to £90,000, and grocery controller roles run higher still (Lime Talent, 2026).

Pay tracks the accounts held. Managing a top-four grocer is a different level to a regional chain, and the numbers follow, so a London brief has to price the scale of the customer base. Because the role runs on trade-investment and profit-and-loss ownership inside a joint business plan, the strongest candidates sit at the top of the band, and benchmarking against the wider national account manager salaries and routes keeps a London package competitive.

How We Recruit National Account Managers in London

We recruit London national account managers from a live specialist network, approaching commercial candidates who are performing rather than applying. The approach maps the capital's FMCG head offices and reaches account managers directly, because the strongest are employed and not on the boards.

We scope the brief against the London market, matching the candidate to the scale of the accounts.

We benchmark the package to London national-account pay before you advertise.

We source passively, approaching national account managers across FMCG head offices.

We shortlist through a fast, decisive process, because strong candidates hold several offers at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a national account manager earn in London

A London national account manager earns a base of £45,000 to £72,000, median around £58,000, plus bonus and a car that push the package past £80,000, with London adding a 10 to 15 percent premium (Coburg Banks, 2026). Senior national account managers on major grocers reach £65,000 to £90,000, and grocery roles run to £86,000 at senior level.

Which London employers hire national account managers

London national account employers are FMCG and consumer-goods commercial head offices across the capital, from grocery-facing brand teams to premium and challenger businesses. The concentration of commercial head offices means account talent can change employer without leaving London, which makes the pool deep but tightly contested.

What does a national account manager do

A national account manager owns the commercial relationship with major national customers, negotiating and defending a joint business plan that sets volume targets, trade investment and listings for the year. The role carries profit-and-loss accountability, so it turns on protecting margin rather than simply managing the account.

How quickly can you hire a national account manager in London

A specialist search compresses a hire that a cold advert leaves open for weeks, because the constraint is reaching employed candidates who hold multiple offers. We shortlist from a live London network and recommend a fast, decisive process, which protects offer acceptance in a candidate-driven market.

Hire a National Account Manager in London

Advocate Group sources national account managers across London's FMCG head offices from a live specialist network. National Account Manager Recruitment in London

Hire a key account manager in Manchester with a specialist FMCG recruiter. We source commercial account talent across Greater Manchester and the North West.

Key Account Manager Recruitment Across Greater Manchester

A key account manager role in Manchester needs a commercial operator who can grow named accounts and defend margin, and the North West's FMCG base makes the pool competitive. Senior key account managers in Manchester managing significant turnover reach £70,000 to £80,000, so strong candidates carry real market value and multiple options (Michael Page, 2026). Advocate Group sources key account managers from a live network across Greater Manchester's FMCG and consumer-goods employers, reaching the commercial talent a cold advert never finds.

Key Takeaways

A UK key account manager earns broadly £45,000 to £55,000, rising to £70,000 to £80,000 for senior roles managing major accounts in Manchester (Michael Page, 2026).

Greater Manchester carries a dense FMCG commercial base, from the Co-op's city-centre teams to North West manufacturers, giving a competitive account-talent pool.

The role progresses from field sales into national accounts, so the strongest candidates carry a clear commercial track record and account-growth results.

Key account managers own trade investment and margin on named accounts, so the best carry evidence of profit-and-loss impact, not just relationships.

Manchester account candidates are routinely counter-offered, so a slow process loses them and a specialist search reaches passive candidates directly.

Where the Best Key Account Managers Sit in Manchester

Manchester's key account managers sit inside FMCG and consumer-goods commercial teams across the city and the wider North West. The Co-op's Manchester head office anchors a large commercial function, supported by the region's food, drink and consumer-goods manufacturers, so account talent trains and stays in the North West. Live senior key account roles in Manchester reach £70,000 to £80,000 for managing significant account turnover as number two to a head of sales (Michael Page, 2026).

That regional density means candidates can change employer without leaving Greater Manchester, which makes the pool competitive and the strongest candidates well courted. Key account managers grow into national accounts over time, so the career path from field sales to national accounts explains where Manchester candidates come from and what makes them move. Commercial leadership sits alongside them, and the region's commercial director recruitment in Manchester draws from the same North West pool.

What a Key Account Manager Earns in Manchester

A key account manager in Manchester earns broadly £45,000 to £55,000 at core level, rising to £70,000 to £80,000 for senior roles managing major accounts (Michael Page, 2026). Pay tracks the scale and complexity of the accounts held, so a key account manager on a large grocery or wholesale customer commands more than one on regional accounts.

The premium at senior level reflects the commercial stakes. A key account manager owns trade investment and margin on named accounts, so the strongest carry evidence of profit-and-loss impact rather than relationship management alone. Because the role feeds directly into national-account seats, benchmarking against national account manager pay and routes helps a Manchester employer set a package that competes for progressing commercial talent.

How We Recruit Key Account Managers in Manchester

We recruit Greater Manchester key account managers from a live specialist network, approaching commercial candidates who are performing rather than applying. The approach maps the region's FMCG employers and reaches account managers directly, because the strongest are employed and not on the boards.

We scope the brief against the North West market, matching the candidate to the accounts.

We benchmark the package to Greater Manchester account pay before you advertise.

We source passively, approaching key account managers across the region's FMCG employers.

We shortlist through a fast, decisive process, because strong candidates hold several offers at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a key account manager earn in Manchester

A key account manager in Manchester earns broadly £45,000 to £55,000 at core level, rising to £70,000 to £80,000 for senior roles managing major accounts (Michael Page, 2026). Pay tracks the scale and complexity of the accounts held, so a candidate on a large grocery or wholesale customer commands more than one on regional accounts.

Which Manchester employers hire key account managers

Manchester key account employers are FMCG and consumer-goods commercial teams across the city and the wider North West, anchored by the Co-op's city-centre function and the region's food, drink and consumer-goods manufacturers. The regional density means account talent can change employer without leaving Greater Manchester.

What is the difference between a key account manager and a national account manager

A key account manager typically handles smaller retail groups, wholesale or regional customers, while a national account manager owns large grocery multiples or strategically critical national accounts with greater trade investment. As the accounts grow in complexity and profit-and-loss exposure, the role moves from key-account to national-account level, and pay follows.

How quickly can you hire a key account manager in Manchester

A specialist search compresses a hire that a cold advert leaves open for weeks, because the constraint is reaching employed candidates who hold multiple offers. We shortlist from a live North West network and recommend a fast, decisive process, which protects offer acceptance in a candidate-driven market.

Hire a Key Account Manager in Manchester

Advocate Group sources key account managers across Greater Manchester and the North West from a live specialist network. Advocate Group runs retained Food Technical Manager searches across Trafford Park, Wigan and Bolton. BRCGS-experienced shortlists inside 21 days.

Hire a Food Technical Manager in Manchester

Manchester Food Technical Manager searches concentrate across the Trafford Park cluster, the M6 food manufacturing corridor and the wider North West food-and-drink base. This page covers the tier, the pay bands and the retained mandate process Advocate Group runs for Food Technical Manager hires against BRCGS audit windows and factory site accreditation deadlines.

Key Takeaways

Food Technical Manager base salaries in Manchester and the North West for 2026 run £52,000 to £72,000 at manager tier and £68,000 to £92,000 at senior Technical Manager tier, tracking the North of England cell across the wider food industry salary framework.

Manchester Food Technical Manager searches concentrate at four clusters, Trafford Park (Kellanova), Kitt Green Wigan (Kraft Heinz), Bolton (Warburtons), and Manchester Business Park at Northenden (PZ Cussons, adjacent CPG technical).

Food Technical Manager candidate pools tighten sharply around BRCGS audit windows in Q1 and Q3, with incumbent Technical Managers screening incoming approaches only outside audit-window pressure.

Retained mandates for Manchester Food Technical Manager roles average 3-4 weeks brief to accepted offer at Advocate Group, versus the wider UK sector average of 6-8 weeks at this tier.

Where Food Technical Manager Roles Concentrate in Manchester

Four clusters carry the concentration.

Trafford Park (M17 / M32) anchors Kellanova UK, the post-Kellogg's-split commercial and manufacturing entity headquartered at Stretford M32 8RA. The Manchester Plant opened in 1938 and is Europe's largest cereal manufacturing site, making Trafford Park the anchor of the North West food technical function. Wider Trafford Park hosts 900+ food and drink manufacturing and related services companies including Kellanova, Heineken, Kraft Heinz and McVities, giving the Technical Manager candidate pool concentrated regional depth.

The Wigan / Warrington M6 corridor (WN / WA) anchors Kraft Heinz at Kitt Green Wigan, one of the largest food production sites in Europe. Technical Managers at Kitt Green own site-wide quality systems, BRCGS audit response and cross-line HACCP integration across ambient food manufacturing at scale. The site's regulatory profile drives a specific technical talent concentration around large-format factory experience that mid-market food manufacturers cannot replicate.

Bolton (BL1) anchors Warburtons at head office and bakery network. Technical Manager roles at Warburtons cover UK-wide bakery site network technical governance, with Bolton central to the Warburtons technical function across ambient bakery and adjacent bread and morning goods categories.

Northenden (M22) at Manchester Business Park anchors PZ Cussons's global HQ, with technical roles concentrating on personal care and household product safety rather than food specifically. The cluster overlaps for Technical Manager candidates who move between food and personal care sub-sectors across a career, particularly around allergen management and regulatory affairs scope.

What a Manchester Food Technical Manager Earns in 2026

Food Technical Manager salary tier progression follows the wider North of England food industry salary framework. Regional pay dispersion in Manchester runs at roughly 10% below London mid at equivalent tier, offset by purchasing-power parity that keeps effective lifestyle equivalent.

Tier

Base Salary (North of England, 2026)

Typical Employer

Technical Manager

£52k-£72k

Blue-chip and mid-market

Senior Technical Manager

£68k-£92k

Blue-chip

Head of Technical

£85k-£120k

Blue-chip and PE-backed

Technical Director

£110k-£155k + LTIP

Blue-chip listed

BRCGS-experienced Technical Manager candidates command £3,000 to £6,000 premium above headline market at equivalent tier during audit season peak demand. Manchester candidates with cross-site technical governance experience across multiple production lines command a further 5-8% premium above headline band because the operational complexity at Kitt Green, Trafford Park and the Warburtons network is not easily replicated at smaller sites. Broader coverage of what a Food Technologist covers day-to-day sits inside the career guide for the tier below, which shapes what candidates arriving at Technical Manager interview will have covered in their previous role.

What a Food Technical Manager Actually Owns

Technical Managers in Manchester food manufacturing typically own five specific scope areas that map directly onto BRCGS Version 9 audit requirements.

Product specification management across live SKU range including ingredient approval, allergen control documentation and pack copy sign-off. HACCP maintenance including CCP verification, corrective action delivery and hazard analysis review cycles. NPD-to-launch technical sign-off working alongside Food Technologists and NPD Technologists on innovation pipeline handover to manufacturing. Non-conformance investigation including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action tracking, and audit trail management. Retailer technical liaison covering customer complaints, complaint trend analysis and retailer technical audit response.

Food Technical Managers also carry Food Safety Officer coordination on allergen management and BRCGS audit preparation. The food safety roles and 2026 salary bands cover the tier structure across the Food Safety Officer function that overlaps with Technical Manager during audit workload peaks. Operationally, Technical Managers work close alongside Food Production Managers on line quality integration and shift-level technical oversight, with food production manager career progression and salary detail covering that operational counterpart.

How Advocate Group Runs Manchester Food Technical Manager Searches

The food recruitment desk runs retained Food Technical Manager mandates across Trafford Park, the M6 corridor and Manchester Business Park. Consultants on the desk hold live network relationships across Kellanova UK, Kraft Heinz UK, Warburtons, McVities, Heineken UK and the wider North West food-and-drink base including Vimto at Nichols plc and Princes Food Group.

Delivery motion runs three specific Manchester adjustments. Passive candidate maps refreshed against BRCGS Version 9 audit experience filters. Cross-site technical governance experience weighted at longlist stage above single-site incumbents. Retained mandate structure with confidential candidate approach, landing offers within 3-4 weeks of brief. The four-lever framework for cutting food manufacturing technical time to fill below 21 days covers the wider audit-window synchronisation discipline that shapes Manchester Technical Manager search planning.

Technical Manager searches at senior tier feed into wider commercial hiring conversations because integrated commercial-plus-manufacturing remits at Kellanova, Kraft Heinz and Warburtons drive collaborative hiring across technical and commercial functions. Sibling coverage of Head of Sales recruitment in Manchester covers the FMCG commercial tier that Technical Managers in food manufacturing interact with during JBP cycle preparation and retailer technical audit response.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Food Technical Manager do?

Food Technical Managers own product specification management, HACCP maintenance, NPD-to-launch technical sign-off, non-conformance investigation and retailer technical liaison across UK food manufacturing sites. Day-to-day involves ingredient approval, allergen control documentation, CCP verification, corrective action delivery, and BRCGS audit preparation. Technical Managers work alongside Food Technologists, Food Safety Officers and Food Production Managers on integrated technical governance.

Which Manchester employers hire Food Technical Managers?

Kellanova UK dominates at Trafford Park cereal manufacturing. Kraft Heinz at Kitt Green Wigan runs one of Europe's largest food production sites. Warburtons at Bolton runs the UK-wide bakery network. Adjacent employers include Heineken UK, McVities across biscuit and confectionery, and challenger-brand food SMEs across the M6 corridor. PZ Cussons at Manchester Business Park overlaps for candidates crossing into personal care technical scope.

What's the salary range for a Food Technical Manager in Manchester?

Base salary for 2026 runs £52,000 to £72,000 at manager tier and £68,000 to £92,000 at senior Technical Manager tier across the North of England cell. Head of Technical roles reach £85,000 to £120,000+ at blue-chip and PE-backed challenger brands. BRCGS-experienced candidates command £3,000 to £6,000 premium above headline market during audit season, plus 5-8% for cross-site technical governance experience.

How does BRCGS audit season affect Technical Manager hiring?

Audit windows concentrate in Q1 (January to March) and Q3 (July to September). Incumbent Technical Managers sit through audits at their current employers and screen incoming approaches only outside audit-window pressure. That means active candidate availability tightens sharply during audit windows themselves and opens up in Q2 and Q4. Best-in-class hiring managers backwards-plan Technical Manager searches to complete 4 to 6 weeks before the target audit date.

Hiring a Food Technical Manager in Manchester

Advocate Group runs retained Food Technical Manager searches across Trafford Park, the M6 corridor and Manchester Business Park with BRCGS-experienced shortlists compressed inside 21 days.

Food Technical Manager Recruitment in Manchester 2026

Advocate Group runs retained Food NPD Manager searches across London food SMEs, HFSS-response reformulation programmes and challenger brand pipelines.

Hire a Food NPD Manager in London

London Food NPD Manager searches concentrate across food SMEs, challenger brand innovation pipelines and the HFSS-response reformulation wave driving intensified NPD demand in 2026. This page covers the tier, the pay bands and the retained mandate process Advocate Group runs for Food NPD Manager hires across London and the M25 corridor.

Key Takeaways

Food NPD Manager base salaries in London for 2026 run £52,000 to £75,000 at manager tier and £68,000 to £95,000 at senior NPD Manager tier, tracking the London and South East cell across the wider food industry salary framework.

London Food NPD Manager searches concentrate at three clusters, the central London food SME cluster (Shoreditch, Southwark, King's Cross), the M4 corridor food HQ ring, and the west London innovation cluster around Park Royal.

Food NPD Manager candidate pools have tightened sharply since October 2025 as HFSS 2026 restrictions forced confectionery, snacks and ready-meal brands into reformulation-heavy pipeline programmes.

Retained mandates for London Food NPD Manager roles average 3-4 weeks brief to accepted offer at Advocate Group, versus the wider UK sector average of 6-8 weeks at this tier.

Where Food NPD Manager Roles Concentrate in London

Three clusters carry the concentration.

The central London food SME cluster (E1, E2, N1, SE1, WC postcodes) anchors the DTC and challenger-brand food scene across Shoreditch, Southwark and King's Cross. Innocent, Deliciously Ella, Rude Health, Bold Bean Co, Ugly Drinks and similar challenger brands run NPD Manager roles focused on innovation pipeline construction, non-HFSS category extension and DTC-to-grocery scale-up NPD. Central London NPD Manager remits tend to run broader than blue-chip equivalents, covering ideation-to-launch scope in a single team rather than staged handovers between innovation and technical.

The M4 corridor food HQ ring anchors NPD functions at PepsiCo Reading, McCormick UK Haddenham, Premier Foods St Albans and Kraft Heinz UK's London commercial and NPD footprint. NPD Manager roles at these employers sit inside larger innovation teams with staged specialisation, meaning NPD Managers own specific category or format work rather than end-to-end pipeline scope.

Park Royal (NW10) anchors the west London food innovation cluster. Historically home to significant food manufacturing capacity, Park Royal has evolved into an NPD and innovation hub with dedicated food innovation studios, contract manufacturing operations and adjacent commercial support functions. NPD Managers at Park Royal split between challenger-brand innovation studios and mid-market food manufacturers running reformulation and non-HFSS pipeline work.

What a London Food NPD Manager Earns in 2026

Food NPD Manager salary tier progression follows the London and South East cell in the wider food industry salary framework, pulled up by HQ competitor proximity and elevated retention pressure across HFSS-response employers.

Tier

Base Salary (London & SE, 2026)

Typical Employer

NPD Technologist

£38k-£54k

Blue-chip and mid-market

NPD Manager

£52k-£75k

Blue-chip, mid-market and challenger

Senior NPD Manager

£68k-£95k

Blue-chip and PE-backed challenger

Head of NPD / Innovation Director

£85k-£125k + LTIP

Blue-chip listed

NPD Managers with proven HFSS 2026 reformulation output command £5,000 to £10,000 premium above headline band at senior tier in 2026, driven by hiring manager demand at brands closing non-HFSS pipeline gaps. Broader coverage of what a Food Technologist covers day-to-day sits inside the career guide for the adjacent technical role that NPD Managers work close alongside during ingredient specification and pack copy sign-off cycles.

What a Food NPD Manager Actually Owns

NPD Managers in London food manufacturing typically own five specific scope areas that map onto the ideation-to-launch pipeline.

Concept ideation and consumer insight interpretation working alongside Marketing and Category teams on innovation brief construction. Prototype development including bench-top formulation, ingredient sourcing and pilot plant trial coordination. Consumer sensory testing including panel design, sensory brief construction and result interpretation. Stage-gate project management taking projects from concept through prototype, pilot, first production and launch. Cross-functional integration with Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Technical, Regulatory Affairs and Commercial across the full launch cycle.

NPD project execution risk is the specific hiring failure that NPD Manager placements are meant to solve. Why CPG NPD projects stall and the hire that fixes them covers the operational patterns behind stalled NPD pipelines and the candidate profile that unstalls them, which is the vetting frame Advocate Group applies at longlist stage on every London NPD Manager mandate.

How HFSS 2026 Reshaped London NPD Manager Demand

HFSS 2026 restrictions came into force in England on 1 October 2025, banning multi-buy and price promotions on high fat, salt and sugar products in medium and large retailer stores and banning UK-targeted paid online advertising for HFSS products. Confectionery, snacks, ready-meal and soft drink brands responded with intensified reformulation pipelines and non-HFSS range extensions, pulling NPD Manager demand up sharply from Q4 2025 onwards.

The four hiring pattern changes HFSS 2026 triggered across FMCG sales and marketing sit alongside a parallel NPD Manager demand wave, meaning candidates who ran the 2025 reformulation transition inside a live NPD team command retention offers of £5,000 to £10,000 above headline market. HFSS-experienced NPD Manager candidates are the tightest sub-segment of the wider NPD talent pool in London through H2 2026, and hiring managers benchmarking against 2024 salary data will systematically under-price this cohort.

How Advocate Group Runs London Food NPD Manager Searches

The food recruitment desk runs retained Food NPD Manager mandates across central London, the M4 corridor and Park Royal. Consultants on the desk hold live network relationships across the London food SME and challenger-brand cohort, the M4 corridor food HQ employers, and the Park Royal innovation cluster.

Delivery motion runs three specific London adjustments. Passive candidate maps refreshed against HFSS 2026 reformulation experience filters. Retained mandate structure with confidential candidate approach. Compressed 2-3 stage interview architecture landing offers within 3-4 weeks of brief. The four-lever framework for cutting food manufacturing technical time to fill below 21 days covers the process discipline that applies equally to NPD Manager hiring.

London NPD Manager searches interact with the wider commercial function because NPD launch pipelines feed JBP retailer conversations, and retailer JBP calendars set NPD launch windows. Sibling coverage of Head of Sales recruitment in London covers the FMCG commercial tier that NPD Managers work with during launch planning and category strategy conversations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Food NPD Manager do?

Food NPD Managers own concept ideation, prototype development, consumer sensory testing, stage-gate project management and cross-functional integration across the ideation-to-launch food product pipeline. Day-to-day involves innovation brief construction, bench-top formulation, pilot plant trials, sensory panel coordination and launch cycle management with Marketing, Supply Chain, Technical, Regulatory Affairs and Commercial functions.

Which London employers hire Food NPD Managers?

Central London food SMEs including Innocent, Deliciously Ella, Rude Health, Bold Bean Co and challenger brands across Shoreditch, Southwark and King's Cross dominate the challenger-brand tier. M4 corridor blue-chip employers including PepsiCo Reading, McCormick UK Haddenham, Premier Foods St Albans and Kraft Heinz UK anchor the blue-chip tier. Park Royal innovation studios and contract manufacturers add a third employer segment.

What's the salary range for a Food NPD Manager in London?

Base salary for 2026 runs £52,000 to £75,000 at manager tier and £68,000 to £95,000 at senior NPD Manager tier across the London and South East cell. Head of NPD roles reach £85,000 to £125,000+ at blue-chip and PE-backed challenger brands. Food NPD Manager Recruitment in London 2026

Advocate Group runs retained Food Manufacturing Operations Director searches across the East and West Midlands manufacturing corridor. 2026 benchmarks.

Hire a Food Manufacturing Operations Director in the Midlands

Midlands Food Manufacturing Operations Director searches concentrate across the West Midlands manufacturing corridor and the East Midlands food manufacturing belt covering Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. This page covers the tier, the pay bands and the retained mandate process Advocate Group runs for Operations Director hires across the Midlands catchment.

Key Takeaways

Food Manufacturing Operations Director base salaries in the Midlands for 2026 run £95,000 to £135,000 at Operations Director tier and £115,000 to £160,000 at Group Operations Director and Manufacturing Director tier, tracking the wider Midlands FMCG cell.

Midlands Food Manufacturing Operations Director searches concentrate at four clusters, Bournville and the West Midlands manufacturing corridor, the M42 challenger-brand base around Solihull, the East Midlands food manufacturing belt (Nottingham, Derby, Leicester), and the East Midlands Airport logistics-adjacent food employers.

Operations Director candidate pools have tightened through 2025-2026 as PE-backed challenger brand growth in the Midlands has expanded demand at multi-site director tier without proportional supply-side growth.

Retained mandates for Midlands Food Manufacturing Operations Director roles average 4-6 weeks brief to accepted offer at Advocate Group, versus the wider UK sector average of 10-14 weeks at director tier.

Where Food Manufacturing Operations Director Roles Concentrate in the Midlands

Four clusters carry the concentration.

Bournville and the West Midlands manufacturing corridor anchor at Mondelez UK, the largest single Midlands food manufacturing site by employee count with around 4,000 UK colleagues across nine UK sites. Operations Director roles at Mondelez cover multi-site manufacturing governance across confectionery production, packaging and warehouse operations. Adjacent West Midlands food manufacturers include Premier Foods, Samworth Brothers Melton Mowbray, Muller UK & Ireland Group Market Drayton and 2 Sisters Food Group sites across the wider West Midlands catchment.

The M42 challenger-brand base around Solihull anchors PE-backed food-and-drink challenger platforms. PE interest in Midlands food-and-drink manufacturers has grown steadily through 2025-2026 with several mid-market food manufacturers preparing for sale or scaling ahead of series funding, pulling Operations Director demand into environments where the role covers site operations, capex planning, and buy-side or exit-side commercial diligence in a single remit.

The East Midlands food manufacturing belt covers Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Major employers include Samworth Brothers Melton Mowbray (Ginsters, Walkers Deli), Muller UK Market Drayton, Bakkavor sites across the East Midlands, and Pork Farms Nottingham. This is the densest food manufacturing catchment in the UK by site count, giving Operations Director candidates concentrated opportunity across chilled prepared foods, ambient food manufacturing and meat processing.

The East Midlands Airport logistics-adjacent cluster anchors food manufacturers that sit close to the DHL and UPS hubs, driving supply chain integration priorities into the Operations Director remit at those sites.

What a Midlands Food Manufacturing Operations Director Earns in 2026

Operations Director salary tier progression follows the Midlands cell in the wider food industry salary framework, tracking closely across West and East Midlands with mid slightly below the Manchester North West cell at equivalent tier.

Tier

Base Salary (Midlands, 2026)

OTE

Typical Employer

Site Manager / Factory Manager

£62k-£85k

£70k-£95k

Blue-chip and mid-market

Operations Manager

£75k-£98k

£85k-£115k

Blue-chip and mid-market

Operations Director

£95k-£135k

£115k-£175k + LTIP

Blue-chip and PE-backed

Group Operations Director / Manufacturing Director

£115k-£160k

£140k-£220k + LTIP

Blue-chip listed and PE-backed

Operations Directors with multi-site manufacturing governance experience across 3+ sites command 10-15% premium above headline band. PE-backed challenger environments layer carry structure onto cash base to close the gap against blue-chip listed employers, meaning realised total compensation at exit can materially exceed listed-employer LTIP outcomes over a 3-year hold period. Broader coverage of the wider food industry career map covering roles and 2026 salary bands sits inside the industry guide for tier structure context across the wider commercial and technical function.

What a Food Manufacturing Operations Director Actually Owns

Operations Directors in Midlands food manufacturing typically own five specific scope areas that map onto factory floor operations, technical governance and commercial delivery.

Multi-site manufacturing governance including production planning, capacity management and shift structure across the sites in scope. Factory P&L accountability including labour productivity, raw material yield, packaging efficiency, and OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) delivery against annual operating plan. Capital expenditure planning including production line investment, factory footprint expansion, and automation programme delivery. Technical function accountability including BRCGS audit outcomes, food safety incident response and retailer technical audit sign-off. Cross-functional integration with Supply Chain, Commercial and Finance on demand-plan handshake, JBP calendar coordination and margin defence.

Operations Directors sit above Food Production Managers on the operational side and Head of Technical on the technical governance side. Broader coverage of food production manager career progression and salary detail covers the tier below on production line management, which shapes what Operations Director candidates will have covered before director-tier appointment.

Why Midlands Operations Director Candidate Pools Have Tightened

PE-backed challenger brand growth across the Midlands has expanded demand at multi-site director tier without proportional supply-side growth. Several mid-market food manufacturers preparing for sale through 2025-2026 have hired incoming Operations Directors specifically to run pre-exit operational transformation programmes, pulling active candidates out of the wider market and increasing search cycle length at the director tier.

BRCGS audit accountability at Operations Director level has also tightened the shortlist criterion. Operations Directors sign off on the technical function's audit response and carry ultimate factory-side accountability for grade outcomes. The six-step audit-season Food Technologist hiring playbook covers the technical hiring discipline that feeds into Operations Director audit governance, showing why Operations Director candidates with proven BRCGS Version 9 audit management track record command premium at senior tier.

How Advocate Group Runs Midlands Operations Director Searches

The food recruitment desk runs retained Food Manufacturing Operations Director mandates across Bournville, the West Midlands corridor, the M42 challenger-brand base and the East Midlands manufacturing belt. Consultants on the desk hold live network relationships across Mondelez UK, Samworth Brothers, Muller UK, Bakkavor, Premier Foods, 2 Sisters Food Group and the PE-backed Midlands food manufacturer cohort.

Delivery motion runs three specific Midlands adjustments. Passive candidate maps refreshed against multi-site manufacturing governance experience filters. PE-experienced director-tier candidates flagged separately for PE-backed client mandates. Retained mandate structure with confidential candidate approach, landing offers within 4-6 weeks of brief at director tier. The four-lever framework for cutting food manufacturing technical time to fill below 21 days applies equally at director tier with extended timeline reflecting the wider director-tier interview architecture.

Operations Director searches interact with the wider FMCG commercial function because factory demand-plan handshake feeds retailer JBP calendars, and Operations Directors contribute to commercial forecasting cycles at ExCo tier. Sibling coverage of Head of Sales recruitment in Birmingham covers the West Midlands FMCG commercial tier that Operations Directors interact with during JBP cycle preparation and category-level commercial planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Food Manufacturing Operations Director do?

Operations Directors own multi-site manufacturing governance, factory P&L accountability, capital expenditure planning, technical function accountability including BRCGS audit outcomes, and cross-functional integration with Supply Chain, Commercial and Finance. Day-to-day involves production planning oversight, OEE delivery review, capex programme steering, retailer technical audit sign-off and demand-plan handshake with the commercial function.

Which Midlands employers hire Food Manufacturing Operations Directors?

Blue-chip employers include Mondelez UK (Bournville), Samworth Brothers (Melton Mowbray), Muller UK & Ireland Group (Market Drayton), Bakkavor across East Midlands sites, Premier Foods (multi-site) and 2 Sisters Food Group. PE-backed challenger employers concentrate around the M42 corridor and the East Midlands food manufacturing belt. Pork Farms Nottingham and adjacent meat and chilled prepared food manufacturers add a further employer segment.

What's the salary range for a Food Manufacturing Operations Director in the Midlands?

Base salary for 2026 runs £95,000 to £135,000 at Operations Director tier and £115,000 to £160,000 at Group Operations Director and Manufacturing Director tier. Multi-site experience across 3+ sites commands 10-15% premium above headline band. PE-backed challenger environments layer carry structure that can materially exceed listed-employer LTIP outcomes over a 3-year hold period.

How long does an Operations Director search take in the Midlands?

Sector average time-to-hire at Food Manufacturing Operations Director tier runs 10 to 14 weeks brief to accepted offer in 2026, reflecting the wider director-tier interview architecture. Advocate Group retained mandates for Midlands Operations Director roles average 4 to 6 weeks by running compressed 3-4 stage interview processes and confidential passive candidate approach against pre-mapped director-tier shortlists.

Hiring a Food Manufacturing Operations Director in the Midlands

Advocate Group runs retained Food Manufacturing Operations Director searches across Bournville, the West Midlands corridor, the M42 challenger-brand base and the East Midlands manufacturing belt with director-tier shortlists compressed to 4-6 week brief-to-offer.

Food Technologist Recruitment Across Liverpool and Merseyside

Hiring a food technologist in Liverpool means competing for scarce technical talent across one of the UK's densest chilled-food clusters, from Speke to Knowsley. Merseyside carries strong candidate demand, with more than 200 food-manufacturing roles live across Liverpool job boards (Glassdoor, June 2026), so employers who advertise alone often wait weeks. Advocate Group sources technologists from a live Merseyside network, including candidates who never appear on job boards.

Key Takeaways

Liverpool concentrates food manufacturing around Speke and Estuary Commerce Park (L24) and Knowsley Industrial Park (L33), anchored by Princes Foods, B&M, Juvela and Applied Nutrition.

More than 200 food-manufacturing roles run live across Liverpool boards (Glassdoor, June 2026), signalling a candidate-driven market where speed of decision wins.

North West food-science roles average around £42,500 (totaljobs, 2025), and Liverpool food technologist base pay runs broadly £28,000 to £45,000.

A fast-growing sports-nutrition sub-cluster at Knowsley, led by The Protein Works and Applied Nutrition, adds in-house formulation and QA demand alongside chilled and ambient work.

Advocate Group places food technologists across Merseyside from a live specialist network, reaching passive candidates a national advert misses.

Where Are Liverpool's Food Technologist Talent Clusters

Liverpool's food technologist talent concentrates in three clusters, led by Speke and Estuary Commerce Park in the L24 postcode area. This is the heart of Merseyside food manufacturing, anchored by Princes Foods, the Liverpool-based food and drink group, alongside B&M, gluten-free specialist Juvela on De Havilland Drive, and Elanco. Strong transport links through Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the M56 and M62 keep the cluster well connected for candidates across the region.

Knowsley Industrial Park in the L33 area forms a second cluster, built around sports nutrition and contract manufacturing. Applied Nutrition, a FTSE 250 business on Acornfield Road, runs a BRC grade-AA facility and makes around 85 percent of its products in-house, which drives demand for in-house formulation and quality technologists. The Protein Works sits in the same sub-cluster. A third cluster in Bootle and North Liverpool (L20) adds ambient and commodity technical roles through businesses such as S&B Herba Foods. Employers hiring across these sites benefit from a recruiter who knows what a food technologist does at each and can match the profile to the sub-sector.

What Does the Liverpool Food Technologist Market Look Like

The Liverpool food technologist market is active and candidate-driven, with base pay running broadly £28,000 to £45,000 and North West food-science roles averaging around £42,500 (totaljobs, 2025). Merseyside's chilled-food heritage combines with a booming sports-nutrition sub-cluster, so candidates hold options across very different production environments, which makes counter-offers common.

Hiring activity is high, with more than 200 food-manufacturing roles live across Liverpool boards (Glassdoor, June 2026). The manufacturers who cut time to fill on technical roles run a short two-stage process from a live pipeline rather than a long advert. Many technologist searches on Merseyside overlap with food safety roles, because high-care chilled production raises audit intensity, so the two searches often run together. Benchmarking against current food technologist salary data before advertising keeps a Liverpool brief competitive.

How We Recruit Food Technologists in Liverpool

We recruit food technologists across Merseyside from a live specialist network, and we reach candidates who are employed and not actively applying. Our Liverpool team has placed food technologist professionals with employers across Speke and Estuary Commerce Park (L24), Knowsley Industrial Park (L33) and North Liverpool, including Princes Foods, B&M, Juvela and The Protein Works.

We scope the role against the Merseyside market, separating must-have skills such as HACCP and current-issue BRCGS from nice-to-haves.

We benchmark the package to Liverpool and North West data before you advertise.

We source passively, reaching technologists across chilled, ambient and sports-nutrition sub-clusters.

We pre-screen for technical competence, then shortlist through a compressed two-interview process with a fast decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a food technologist earn in Liverpool

A food technologist in Liverpool earns broadly £28,000 to £45,000 depending on experience, with North West food-science roles averaging around £42,500 (totaljobs, 2025). Graduates start near £24,000 to £28,000, while senior technologists and technical managers reach the top of the range, particularly in sports nutrition and own-label chilled manufacturing.

Which Liverpool employers hire food technologists

Liverpool food technologist employers cluster in Speke and Knowsley, including Princes Foods, B&M, Juvela, Applied Nutrition and The Protein Works. The mix spans chilled and ambient food manufacturing on Estuary Commerce Park and a fast-growing sports-nutrition sub-cluster at Knowsley Industrial Park, which adds in-house formulation and quality demand.

How quickly can you fill a food technologist role in Liverpool

A specialist search compresses a technical hire that conventionally takes 60 to 90 days, because the constraint is candidate access rather than application volume. We shortlist from a live Merseyside pipeline and recommend a two-interview process with a fast decision, which protects offer acceptance in a candidate-driven market where strong candidates hold multiple offers.

Do you recruit interim food technologists in Liverpool

Yes. We place interim food technologists across Merseyside for defined gaps such as audit preparation, a relaunch or maternity cover, typically at £300 to £350 per day inside IR35 (jobs.foodmanufacture.co.uk, 2026). Interim cover carries no benefits liability and lets a Liverpool site bridge a gap while a permanent search runs in parallel.

Hire a Food Technologist in Liverpool

Advocate Group sources food technologists across Speke, Knowsley and wider Merseyside from a live specialist network. Talk to our food and drink recruitment team about your Liverpool brief and we'll benchmark, source and shortlist it fast.

Food Technologist Recruitment in Liverpool and Merseyside

Hire a food technologist in Manchester with a specialist food recruiter. We source technical talent across Trafford Park, Bolton and Greater Manchester.

Food Technologist Recruitment Across Greater Manchester

Hiring a food technologist in Manchester means sourcing across Europe's largest industrial estate at Trafford Park and a major bakery cluster around Bolton. Greater Manchester runs high hiring activity, with several hundred food-manufacturing and industry roles live across Manchester boards (LinkedIn and totaljobs, 2026), which keeps strong technologists in demand. Advocate Group sources technical talent from a live regional network built around these clusters.

Key Takeaways

Manchester food manufacturing concentrates at Trafford Park (M17), a Bolton bakery cluster led by Warburtons, and ready-meal and cake sites across Sharston and Oldham.

Several hundred food-manufacturing and industry roles run live across Manchester boards (LinkedIn and totaljobs, 2026), signalling strong, candidate-driven demand.

Manchester food technologist base pay runs broadly £28,000 to £48,000, with a Co-op Manchester technologist role advertised at £35,000 (January 2025) and North West food-science averaging around £42,500 (totaljobs, 2025).

The market shifted in September 2026 when Kellanova ceased Trafford Park cereal production, releasing experienced technical candidates into the regional pool.

Advocate Group places food technologists across Greater Manchester from a live specialist network that reaches passive candidates.

Where Are Manchester's Food Technologist Talent Clusters

Manchester's food technologist talent concentrates first at Trafford Park in the M17 postcode area, on an industrial estate of more than 1,300 businesses and 35,000-plus employees. Food and FMCG manufacturers there include Unilever Foods and Procter & Gamble, supported by the Manchester Ship Canal and the surrounding motorway network. The cluster shifted in September 2026 when Kellanova ceased Trafford Park cereal production, moving output to Wrexham, though Kellanova retains more than 500 North West employees at its MediaCity technology hub in Salford and a St Helens site.

A second cluster centres on Bolton (BL1 and BL2), anchored by Warburtons, whose head office and production bakery sit there alongside a planned campus-style research and development bakery. This is a prime food technologist employer with a dedicated technical and NPD function. Ready-meal and own-label cake manufacturing forms a third cluster across Sharston and Wythenshawe (M22) and Oldham (OL8), led by The Authentic Food Company and Park Cakes, with a further food-manufacturing and distribution corridor emerging around Rochdale's Kingsway and Heywood parks. Employers hiring across these sites benefit from a recruiter who can match a technologist to the right sub-sector, from bakery NPD to retailer-facing specifications, and who understands hiring around BRCGS audit season.

What Does the Manchester Food Technologist Market Look Like

The Manchester food technologist market is active and candidate-driven, with base pay running broadly £28,000 to £48,000. A Co-op Manchester technologist role was advertised at £35,000 (January 2025), and North West food-science roles average around £42,500 (totaljobs, 2025). Greater Manchester's scale means candidates weigh options across bakery, ready meals, own-label and FMCG, so counter-offers are frequent.

Hiring activity is high, with several hundred food-manufacturing and industry roles live across Manchester boards (LinkedIn and totaljobs, 2026). The September 2026 Kellanova cereal closure released experienced technical candidates into the regional pool, which shifts the balance for employers ready to move quickly. Manufacturers who cut time to fill on technical roles run a short two-stage process from a live pipeline. Kellanova ceased Trafford Park cereal production in September 2026, moving output to Wrexham and releasing experienced technical candidates into the Greater Manchester pool. Kellanova retains more than 500 North West employees at its MediaCity technology hub and St Helens, so senior technical skills remain in the region for employers ready to move.

Do you recruit interim food technologists in Manchester

Yes. Food Technologist Recruitment Manchester

Hire a food technologist in Yorkshire with a specialist food recruiter. We source technical talent across Wakefield, Leeds and the Hull and Humber food belt.

Food Technologist Recruitment Across Yorkshire and the Humber

Hiring a food technologist in Yorkshire means sourcing across the UK's most diverse food-manufacturing base, from dairy at Leeds to Europe's leading seafood and protein cluster around Hull. Wakefield alone lists 463 manufacturing firms (D&B), and the Humber hosts more than 2,500 food and drink businesses employing over 35,000 people (Invest Humber). Advocate Group sources technical talent from a live network across the whole belt.

Key Takeaways

Yorkshire food manufacturing spans dairy at Leeds Stourton (LS10), bakery and cooked meats at Wakefield and Normanton (WF6), and a seafood and protein cluster around Hull and the Humber.

Anchor employers include Warburtons, Cranswick, Forza Kober and Arla Foods, with Cranswick a FTSE 250 business headquartered in Hull reporting £2,982.5m revenue in 2026.

Wakefield lists 463 manufacturing firms (D&B) and the Humber hosts more than 2,500 food and drink businesses employing over 35,000 people (Invest Humber), signalling deep technical demand.

Yorkshire food technologist base pay runs broadly £26,000 to £45,000, with a Bradford food-technician role at £29,900 (Reed) illustrating entry-level bands.

Advocate Group places food technologists across Yorkshire and the Humber from a live specialist network that reaches passive candidates.

Where Are Yorkshire's Food Technologist Talent Clusters

Yorkshire's food technologist talent spreads across four clusters, led by Wakefield and Normanton in the WF6 area. Wakefield Europort and Tuscany Park anchor bakery and cooked-meats manufacturing through the Warburtons Tuscany Park super-bakery and Forza Kober, alongside Napier Brown and Kerry Foods at nearby Ossett. The M62 and M1 motorway hub keeps the cluster connected across the region.

Hull and the Humber form the largest cluster, built on seafood, pork and protein, frozen food and edible oils. Cranswick, a FTSE 250 business headquartered in Hull, employs 16,000 people and reported £2,982.5m revenue in 2026, and it recruits quality systems technologists across its sites, alongside Young's Seafood, Aunt Bessie's and AAK. The Humber is often called Europe's food town for good reason. A third cluster at Leeds Stourton (LS10) centres on dairy through the Arla Foods UK head office and creamery, and a fourth across Sheffield and Bradford adds bakery, confectionery and world-food demand through businesses such as AF Foods. Employers hiring across this spread benefit from a recruiter who knows the wider food industry job market and can match a technologist to dairy, protein or bakery work.

What Does the Yorkshire Food Technologist Market Look Like

The Yorkshire food technologist market is deep and candidate-driven, with base pay running broadly £26,000 to £45,000 and a Bradford food-technician role advertised at £29,900 (Reed). The region spans dairy, cooked meats, bakery and seafood, so candidates hold options across very different production environments, which keeps counter-offers common.

Hiring activity is high across the belt, with Wakefield listing 463 manufacturing firms (D&B) and the Humber hosting more than 2,500 food and drink businesses (Invest Humber). High-care protein and seafood production raises audit intensity, so many Yorkshire technologist searches overlap with food safety roles. Benchmarking against current food technologist salary data before advertising keeps a Yorkshire brief competitive.

How We Recruit Food Technologists in Yorkshire

We recruit food technologists across Yorkshire and the Humber from a live specialist network, and we reach candidates who are employed and not actively applying. Cranswick, a FTSE 250 business, is headquartered in Hull and employs 16,000 people, so the area concentrates technical, quality and specifications demand that rewards a specialist search.

Do you recruit interim food technologists in Yorkshire

Yes. Fashion Recruitment Agency UK

Consumer packaged goods recruitment for brand, NPD, category and commercial roles. We build the teams behind the UK's consumer goods brands. Get in touch.

CPG & Consumer Goods Recruitment

Advocate Group builds the teams behind the UK's consumer packaged goods brands. We recruit the brand, product and commercial specialists who turn packaged goods into category winners: brand and marketing leaders, new product development experts, category managers, and the account teams that own revenue in grocery and retail. Every search draws on live consumer goods salary data and a network built across branded and own-label businesses.

What is CPG recruitment?

Consumer packaged goods recruitment, defined

It places the people who design, market and sell packaged consumer products: brand managers, NPD and innovation specialists, category and insight professionals, and the commercial teams behind them. Strong CPG recruitment reads two things at once: whether a candidate understands category dynamics, and whether they've genuinely owned a brand or a P&L rather than supported one.

Where CPG sits in the consumer goods market

Consumer packaged goods spans food, household, personal care and beauty products sold at scale through retail and e-commerce. The hiring leans to the brand and product side: the roles that create demand and shape range. It's a distinct discipline, and we run it as its own desk.

What roles do CPG recruiters fill?

We focus on four families of consumer goods talent.

Brand and marketing recruitment

Brand managers, senior brand managers and marketing leaders who own positioning, pricing and the P&L behind a range. We screen for commercial ownership, not campaign admin, so your shortlist can defend a margin as well as a creative brief.

NPD and innovation recruitment

New product development is where consumer goods brands win or stall. We place NPD managers, innovation leads and technical product specialists who take a concept from brief to launch on time and on cost.

Category management recruitment

Category and insight talent is getting harder to find and more decisive at the buyer's desk. We recruit category managers and shopper insight specialists who turn data into range and space wins with the major grocers.

Commercial and account management

On the revenue side, we place national account managers and commercial leaders who've genuinely owned grocery and retail relationships. We test for real revenue ownership, not job titles.

How to choose a CPG recruitment agency?

Judge a consumer goods recruiter on evidence, not sector name-drops.

What to check before you brief a CPG agency

Ask for placements in your specific function - brand, NPD, category or commercial - not just consumer goods in general.

Check retention, not just speed. Time-to-hire means little if the hire leaves inside a year.

Look for live salary and market data on packaged goods roles, so your offer lands first time.

Test their network for passive talent: the brand and category people who never hit the job boards.

Questions worth asking

Ask how they assess real revenue ownership, how deep their category and NPD networks run, and how they handle both branded and own-label briefs.

Why choose Advocate Group for CPG recruitment?

A proven consumer goods track record

We've placed brand, category, NPD and commercial leaders across global names and challenger brands, with a 96% placement retention rate. Our network reaches the active and the passive.

Consumer goods salary benchmarks and market insight

Our salary benchmarks and market reports keep offers competitive across food, household, personal care and beauty. You brief with real numbers, not guesswork.

FAQs

Q: What is CPG recruitment?

A: It's the sourcing and placement of brand, NPD, category and commercial talent for consumer packaged goods businesses, from manager to board level.

Q: What roles do CPG recruiters fill?

A: Brand and marketing managers, NPD and innovation specialists, category and insight professionals, and national account and commercial leaders.

Q: How do I choose a CPG recruitment agency?

A: Check function-specific placements, retention rates, packaged goods salary data and the depth of their passive network before you brief.

Did you know, we are also experts in Beauty & Cosmetics recruitment, Consumer Packaged Goods recruitment, Drinks recruitment, Fashion recruitment, FMCG recruitment, Food recruitment, Health & Wellbeing recruitment, Homeware recruitment and Toys & Games recruitment? Health and Wellbeing Recruitment Across Pharma, OTC and Nutraceuticals

Advocate Group specialises in recruitment for branded health and wellbeing products sold through retail channels - from high-street pharmacies and supermarkets to specialist wellness stores and e-commerce platforms. Our teams source talent across Category Management, NPD, Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, and Digital Commerce to help you build agile, consumer-centric brands. We’ve partnered with emerging and established consumer health brands to achieve 96 percent first-year retention and measurable impact on market share. The UK vitamins, minerals and supplements market is now worth over £500 million and growing, so demand for technical and commercial talent in consumer health keeps rising. For the practices that keep those teams in place, see our retention and wellbeing work in consumer products.

What Is Health & Wellbeing Recruitment?

Branded Retail vs Clinical Sector Recruitment

Recruitment for retail-focused health and wellbeing brands targets roles in product development, brand management, in-store and online sales, and supply chain - ensuring your team delivers consumer appeal, regulatory compliance, and commercial growth. This differs from clinical recruitment, which centres on hospital, research, and practitioner positions.

Scope: Nutraceuticals, Supplements, Personal Care & Wellness Products

We place NPD scientists, quality specialists, and regulatory experts for nutraceutical and supplement brands; brand and marketing managers for personal care and wellness ranges; and commercial professionals to drive distribution and retailer partnerships.

How to Recruit Health and Wellbeing Talent?

Sourcing Strategies for Retail NPD & Quality Roles

Effective sourcing for product development and quality assurance in branded lines draws on industry networks, trade shows and specialised forums. We engage R&D scientists and QA managers with proven track records in formulation, stability testing, and regulatory filings for retail products.

Assessing Candidates for Health & Wellness Talent Acquisition

For marketing, sales, e-commerce, and supply chain roles, we use case-study interviews and simulation exercises - such as campaign planning, account management scenarios, and platform-integration assessments - to evaluate candidate effectiveness in driving retail sales and online growth.

What Sectors Fall Under Health & Wellbeing Recruitment?

Nutraceuticals & Supplement Brands

Our recruiters fill roles from Technical/NPD scientists to Category Managers and Sales Directors for leading nutraceutical and dietary supplement companies selling through pharmacies, supermarkets, and online health stores.

Personal Care, Skincare & Wellness Ranges

We place Brand Managers, Digital Marketers, and eCommerce Managers for personal care and wellness product lines - covering everything from functional skincare and aromatherapy to fitness nutrition and lifestyle devices.

Why Choose Advocate Group for Health & Wellbeing Staffing?

Proven Success with Retail-Focused Brands

We’ve partnered with emerging and established consumer health brands to build teams that achieve rapid shelf-space growth and strong online sales - delivering 96 percent first-year retention and measurable impact on market share.

Regulatory, Quality & Commercial Expertise

Our rigorous screening ensures candidates hold relevant certifications (e.g., HACCP, ISO, BRC) and commercial experience with major retailers and digital marketplaces. We blend compliance know-how with retail acumen to secure hires who excel from launch to shelf.

FAQs

What is health and wellbeing recruitment?

Health and wellbeing recruitment sources talent for consumer health brands sold through retail and online channels, covering NPD, quality assurance, marketing, sales, e-commerce and supply chain across nutraceutical, supplement, personal-care and wellness ranges. It sits apart from clinical recruitment, which fills hospital, research and practitioner roles rather than commercial, retail-facing brand positions.

How do you recruit health and wellbeing talent?

We use specialised industry networks, retail-focused assessment exercises and regulatory screening to find candidates who combine technical depth with commercial judgement. For NPD and quality roles we test formulation and compliance knowledge, and for commercial roles we use case-study interviews covering campaign planning, account management and platform integration to prove real retail impact.

Which sectors fall under health and wellbeing recruitment?

The field covers nutraceuticals and supplements, personal care and skincare, functional nutrition, wellness devices and lifestyle brands sold through pharmacies, supermarkets and online health stores. Each sub-sector carries its own technical and regulatory demands, from supplement formulation and stability testing to skincare claims and device compliance, which shapes the candidate profile we target.

What qualifications do health and wellbeing candidates need?

NPD and technical roles usually require a degree in food science, biochemistry or a related field, plus quality certifications such as HACCP, ISO or BRC. Commercial roles need proven retail or e-commerce experience with major retailers and digital marketplaces, so the strongest candidates pair regulatory command with a commercial track record.
